ഹോങ്കോംഗ്, മക്കാവു എന്നിവയെ ചൈനയുമായി ബന്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്ന കടല്‍പ്പാലത്തിന് 55 കിലോമീറ്ററാണ് നീളം. ആറുവരിപ്പാതയായി നിര്‍മിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന പാലം നാല് ടണലുകളും നാല് കൃത്രിമ ദ്വീപുകളും അടങ്ങിയതാണ്.2009ലാണ് പാലത്തിന്റെ നിര്‍മ്മാണ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങള്‍ ആരംഭിച്ചത്.അമേരിക്ക, ബ്രിട്ടന്‍, ഡെന്‍മാര്‍ക്ക്, ജപ്പാന്‍, നെതര്‍ലാന്റ്സ് തുടങ്ങി 14 രാജ്യങ്ങളില്‍ നിന്നുള്ള വിദഗ്ധരുടെ കൂട്ടായ്മയിലാണ് നിര്‍മാണം പൂര്‍ത്തിയായതെന്ന് ഇതിന്റെ ചുമതലയുള്ള ഗാവോ സിംഗ്ളിന്‍ പറഞ്ഞു. കോടിക്കണക്കിന് ഡോളര്‍ ചെലവഴിച്ച് നിര്‍മിച്ച പാലം ഉരുക്കിലാണ് പണികഴിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്.10 മിനുട്ട് ഇടവിട്ടുള്ള ബസ് സര്‍വീസ് ഉള്‍പ്പെടെ ദിവസം 40,000 വാഹനങ്ങള്‍ ഇതുവഴി കടന്നുപോകുമെന്നാണ് പ്രതീക്ഷ. മുന്‍ ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് കോളനിയും സ്വന്തമായ നിയമ വ്യവസ്ഥ ഉള്‍പ്പെടെയുള്ള ഹോങ്കോംഗിനു മേല്‍ കൂടുതല്‍ നിയന്ത്രണം കൊണ്ടുവരാനുള്ള ചൈനയുടെ നീക്കമാണ് പാലം നിര്‍മാണത്തിന് പിന്നിലെന്നും ആരോപമുണ്ട്

34 മൈല്‍ നീളമുള്ള പാലത്തിന്റെ പണി പൂര്‍ത്തിയാക്കിയത് വര്‍ഷങ്ങളേടുത്ത്.ഹോങ്കോങ്ങിലെ ലന്താവു ദ്വീപില്‍ നിന്നാരംഭിക്കുന്ന പാലം മക്കാവുവിലേക്കും സുഹായിയിലേക്കുമായി വൈ ആകൃതിയിലാണ് നിര്‍മ്മിച്ചിര്ക്കുന്നത്.എത്ര വലിയ ചുഴലിക്കാറ്റിനേയും കടല്‍ത്തിരമാലകളേയും ചെറുത്തുനില്‍ക്കാന്‍ കെല്‍പ്പുള്ളതാണ് പാലം എന്ന് ചൈന അവകാശപ്പെടുന്നു.
പാലത്തെ കുറിച്ചുളള വാര്‍ത്തകള്‍ നേരത്തെ പുറത്തുവന്നിരുന്നെങ്കിലും പണി ഏകദേശം പൂര്‍ത്തിയായ പാലം എങ്ങനെയാരുമെന്ന വീഡിയോ ആണിപ്പോല്‍ വൈറലാകുന്നത്.
ഇത്രയും നീളമുള്ള ഈ പാലത്തിനിടയില്‍ കൃത്രിമമായ രണ്ടു ദ്വീപുകളും ചൈന ഉണ്ടാക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. കടലിനടിയില്‍കൂടി രണ്ട് തുരങ്കങ്ങള്‍ സൃഷ്ടിച്ച് ഈ രണ്ടു ദ്വീപുകളെയും തമ്മില്‍ പരസ്പരം ബന്ധിപ്പിച്ചിട്ടുമുണ്ട്.ഏകദേശം 60 ഈഫില്‍ ടവറുകള്‍ നിര്‍മ്മിക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള അത്രയും സ്റ്റീല്‍ വേണ്ടി വന്നിട്ടുണ്ട് ഇവയുടെ നിര്‍മ്മാണത്തിന്. ഈ ഡിസംബറോടെ പാലത്തിന്റെ അവസാന പണികളും പൂര്‍ത്തിയാകും. പാലത്തിന് 120 വര്‍ഷത്തെ ആയുസ്സാണ് നിര്‍മ്മാതാക്കള്‍ അവകാശപ്പെടുന്നത്.

സ്ഥിര യാത്രക്കാരേയും വിനോദ സഞ്ചാരികളെയും ലക്ഷ്യമിട്ടാണ് പാലം നിര്‍മിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. അതിസാഹസികമായി നടന്ന പാലത്തിന്റെ നിര്‍മ്മാണത്തിനിടെ അനേകം തൊഴിലാളികള്‍ മരണപ്പെട്ടതായി അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര മാധ്യമങ്ങള്‍ റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ട് ചെയ്തിരുന്നു. ഭൂകമ്പങ്ങളെയും ചുഴലിക്കാറ്റുകളെയും അതിജീവിക്കാന്‍ കഴിയുന്ന രീതിയിലാണ് പാലത്തിന്റെ നിര്‍മ്മിതി.
400,000 ടണ്‍ സ്റ്റീലാണ് പാലത്തിന്റെ നിര്‍മാണത്തിന് ഉപയോഗിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. എന്നാല്‍ എല്ലാവര്‍ക്കും ഈ പാലത്തിന് മുകളിലൂടെ വാഹനം ഓടിക്കാന്‍ കഴിയില്ല. സ്വകാര്യ വാഹനങ്ങള്‍ കര്‍ശന നിയന്ത്രണത്തോടുകൂടി നേരത്തെ അനുമതി വാങ്ങിയാല്‍ മാത്രമേ പാലത്തില്‍ കയറാന്‍ കഴിയുകയുള്ളു.വര്‍ഷം 86 മില്യണ്‍ യു.എസ് ഡോളര്‍ ടോള്‍ വരുമാനം പാലത്തില്‍ നിന്ന് ഉണ്ടാവുമെന്നാണ് ബി.ബി.സി റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ട് ചെയ്യുന്നത്.
