While addressing the gathering Sonia Gandhi slammed the opposition for blocking the welfare measures by the Congress-led Government at the Centre and assured that Congress is determined to carry on with its pro-poor measures. 'We are aware that many poor people in our country are not able to avail proper health care due to financial difficulties. I, therefore, wish to appreciate the decision of the state government to supply free medicines and to provide free medical care for such people. I also feel happy that the government extended this facility in the case of animals too' said Sonia Gandhi..

You know that we import 80% of crude oil from which we make petrol, diesel, kerosene and cooking gas. We continue to subsidise kerosene which must be done. But we have been compelled and we have no option but to increase the prices of diesel and the cooking gas. In spite of these, UPA government is doing its best not to burden the people with more hardships. As we hold the responsibility as a Government at the Centre, the state government also has some responsibility. I want to ask the BJP government here why have not the government increase the limit of LPG cylinders to a family from 6 to 9. This is what our Congress government has done in the states ruled by us. Why has the Karnataka Government not reduced the VAT on diesel, just like our Congress led governments have done? So it is very easy to criticize others but what about you (the state government), what are you doing to reduce the hardships of your people? It is your (state government’s) responsibility as much as ours†said Sonia Gandhi.

This drinking water project would benefit more than 23 lakh people from nine towns and about 900 villages of Nagaur district. The project, being supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), will be completed in four years. 'Because of the efforts of the state government led by Mr. Ashok Gehlot and with the cooperation of the people, the state of Rajasthan is developing fast in all fields. In this journey of development, the Congress-led Rajasthan Government has achieved another mile stone by launching this project. When this drinking water project would be completed, about 900 villages and 9 towns in the Nagaur district will be benefitted. The water from Indira Gandhi canal will reach every household. The water will be pure and will therefore free people from many water-borne diseases.' Said Sonia Gandhi

It is very unfortunate that, these parties have made this a habit to block all welfare measures of the Congress government'.
