Congress President and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi laid the foundation stone of two units of 660 MW each at the super thermal power plant at Suratgarh in Rajasthan. While addressing the gathering Sonia Gandhi slammed the opposition for blocking the welfare measures by the Congress-led Government at the Centre and assured that Congress is determined to carry on with its pro-poor measures. Listing Congress-led UPA Govt's achievements, the Congress President said ''The poor in the villages are now able to get jobs under Mahatma Gandhi NREGA scheme. We also took steps to ensure free education to all children upto 14 years. To boost the confidence of my sisters, the Central government has taken various steps and through Self Help (SHG) scheme, we ensured loan at a lower rate of 4% for them. To ensure that no one in our country lives in hunger, we intend to bring Food Security Bill. We would have got this bill passed much earlier but could not do so as the opposition parties created hurdles. It is very unfortunate that, these parties have made this a habit to block all welfare measures of the Congress government'..
