Speaking at a massive public rally in Nabrangpur, Rahul Gandhi said, 'Odisha has money, natural resources, forests and water. It is a rich state, but the people are poor. The state government takes your money and gives it to the industrialists. They don't use it for building schools for you, or providing education, health and jobs.'
He added that the Congress led UPA government had made special allocation of funds for the welfare of tribal people, but the BJD government has diverted these funds to other things. 'The job of the government is to help you. You should have a railway line. The water which should be used for irrigation is diverted for industrial uses,' he said..

'Nearly 4,000 farmers were forced to commit suicide because of the anti-farmer policy of the BJD government. Under the central government scheme, farmers were supposed to be given bonus but the state government did not implement it,' Mrs Gandhi said.

He added that the ideology of the Congress is of love, peace and brotherhood and the BJP can continue dreaming about removing Congress from India. 'They don't realize that the Congress party is not an entity, it is an ideology. Every person in India irrespective of their religion and caste has this ideology in them,' he said.

'We want to take everyone along in the process of development, which is why we send funds from the Centre to improve the development of infrastructure and roads. These funds have not reached people, and the insufficient development in West Bengal is a result of this issue. Congress has announced several welfare schemes and rights-based legislations, but the implementation at the local level has been poor,' said Rahul Gandhi.
Rahul Gandhi also threw light on the hypocrisy of the TMC government. 'People had hoped the new government will work for development, for education, for creating jobs and employment, but unfortunately the TMC Government has done the same thing for which it fought against the communists,' he added.
