Hitting out at Odisha's ruling party Biju Janata Dal (BJD) for neglecting the poor, common man and farmers, Mrs Sonia Gandhi said the central government provided thousands of crores of rupees in assistance to the state government under different programmes but they were not implemented properly.
'Nearly 4,000 farmers were forced to commit suicide because of the anti-farmer policy of the BJD government. Under the central government scheme, farmers were supposed to be given bonus but the state government did not implement it,' Mrs Gandhi said..

Once the dam will be in operation it will be a great relief for our farmers here and I am sure it will transform their lives.

Speaking at a massive public rally in Nabrangpur, Rahul Gandhi said, 'Odisha has money, natural resources, forests and water. It is a rich state, but the people are poor. The state government takes your money and gives it to the industrialists. They don't use it for building schools for you, or providing education, health and jobs.'
He added that the Congress led UPA government had made special allocation of funds for the welfare of tribal people, but the BJD government has diverted these funds to other things. 'The job of the government is to help you. You should have a railway line. The water which should be used for irrigation is diverted for industrial uses,' he said.

When BJP was taking away your lands in Nayamgiri, Rahul (Gandhi) ji had come here, fought for you and didn't let BJHP's plans to snatch away your rights to succeed.
Congress has been fighting for the tribals, poor, down trodden and weaker section of the society. Nobody has done it before, like the way Congress did and as a result there is improvement in the lives of all sections.
Development could have been much faster and better had her party been in government in the state. UPA government has implemented MNREGA so that you could get jobs but still people migrate from here for employment.

“As you all know we have no control on the international prices of oil which have gone up from 40 dollars per barrels 10 years ago, to 140 dollars per barrel today. You know that we import 80% of crude oil from which we make petrol, diesel, kerosene and cooking gas. We continue to subsidise kerosene which must be done. But we have been compelled and we have no option but to increase the prices of diesel and the cooking gas. In spite of these, UPA government is doing its best not to burden the people with more hardships. As we hold the responsibility as a Government at the Centre, the state government also has some responsibility. I want to ask the BJP government here why have not the government increase the limit of LPG cylinders to a family from 6 to 9. This is what our Congress government has done in the states ruled by us. Why has the Karnataka Government not reduced the VAT on diesel, just like our Congress led governments have done? So it is very easy to criticize others but what about you (the state government), what are you doing to reduce the hardships of your people? It is your (state government’s) responsibility as much as ours†said Sonia Gandhi.

There are people who work with bad motive in our country. They want to take society to the path of darkness and oppression. I have complete trust in you. I am fully assured that you won't commit any mistake but will give your full support to Congress. There are some people who think that running a government is a child play but you know how they ran away few days from responsibility in Delhi.
