Entire Bihar, especially this region, has produced many brave leaders who had an active role in our great freedom struggle. Our leaders also fought very hard to uplift the downtrodden after independence. The efforts by Babu Jagjeevan Ram for the development of this region and welfare of its people are known to all of you. You also are aware of the struggle he put in to find solution to the scarcity of irrigation water here. Realising this serious issue of the farmers here, he had started the construction of Karamchat dham. Though the construction was stopped in between, now Meira Kumar ji intervened resumed work and now the project is nearing completion. Once the dam will be in operation it will be a great relief for our farmers here and I am sure it will transform their lives..

'What is the path of our principal opponent, the BJP? Its path is to divide the society and people on the basis of communities. It promotes violence,' said Smt. Sonia Gandhi
'Such ideology will harm the country. It will harm you and all of us. Now we have an opportunity to elect a new government which is committed to people of all castes, religions and communities. Such governance can only be given by the Congress,' she said.
Hitting out at Odisha's ruling party Biju Janata Dal (BJD) for neglecting the poor, common man and farmers, Mrs Sonia Gandhi said the central government provided thousands of crores of rupees in assistance to the state government under different programmes but they were not implemented properly.
'Nearly 4,000 farmers were forced to commit suicide because of the anti-farmer policy of the BJD government. Under the central government scheme, farmers were supposed to be given bonus but the state government did not implement it,' Mrs Gandhi said.

But when the ballot boxes were opened, BJP came to know that the poor in our country burst that balloon.

But they did not understand that that was already a failed one; but they went ahead with it. Again when the election was over that balloon also was burst. Now, in 2014 also, BJP and NDA are ready with another new big balloon, called Gujarat Model.' said Rahul Gandhi
Ridiculing BJP's Gujarat model of development, he said, 'Bihar needs its own model of development and not any other model from outside.'There is no problem with this state. What we have to is just to empower its people. I know there are some issues with irrigation here and I assure you that we will definitely find a solution to it when we come back to power.' She also slammed the BJP by saying that it never took any serious action to fight corruption.
“As you all know we have no control on the international prices of oil which have gone up from 40 dollars per barrels 10 years ago, to 140 dollars per barrel today. You know that we import 80% of crude oil from which we make petrol, diesel, kerosene and cooking gas. We continue to subsidise kerosene which must be done. But we have been compelled and we have no option but to increase the prices of diesel and the cooking gas. In spite of these, UPA government is doing its best not to burden the people with more hardships. As we hold the responsibility as a Government at the Centre, the state government also has some responsibility. I want to ask the BJP government here why have not the government increase the limit of LPG cylinders to a family from 6 to 9. This is what our Congress government has done in the states ruled by us. Why has the Karnataka Government not reduced the VAT on diesel, just like our Congress led governments have done? So it is very easy to criticize others but what about you (the state government), what are you doing to reduce the hardships of your people? It is your (state government’s) responsibility as much as ours†said Sonia Gandhi.

We are proud that most of the times you have teposed your faith in us after the independence and we tried to justify your trust. We are proud that all our leaders have fought to protect nation's dignity in eye of the world. This is the result of hard work of your ancestors. Whenever I remembered them I feel they are much greater than us.
I am in the politics to take forward this tradition. Our mixed culture is more important to me than power. Authority is only a source. One can work for the welfare of the people when motive is right but when motive is wrong then it can destroy everyone.
There are people who work with bad motive in our country. They want to take society to the path of darkness and oppression. I have complete trust in you. I am fully assured that you won't commit any mistake but will give your full support to Congress. There are some people who think that running a government is a child play but you know how they ran away few days from responsibility in Delhi.

We must fight any such forces which harm the secular, democratic culture of our country. We also must be vigilant against other forces like JD-U also which frequently change colours just to grab power.
