Rahul Gandhi today told the people of Haryana that their state does not need the 'Gujarat model' to grow and that such a model would be detrimental to the interests of the poor, farmers and backward classes. 'Only a day is left for polling, and the BJP manifesto is nowhere in sight. Their leaders make big speeches and sell big dreams, but they haven't presented the manifesto to the people. They are selling the Gujarat model but Haryana does not need Gujarat model. Be it wheat production or the number of sportspersons from Haryana, the state is ahead of Gujarat,' said Rahul Gandhi.
The Congress Party released its manifesto more than ten days ago, after wide consultations with people from all over the country. Close to 5 lakh people gave their inputs for the manifesto. Rahul Gandhi himself held close to 40 meetings with different groups, such as rickshaw pullers, farmers, coolies, daily wage labourers, among others, to seek their views and inputs..

He also elaborated on the plans of the Congress Party for the future. 'Our plan is to bring 70 crore people into the middle class in the next five years. We will provide right to shelter and healthcare.

In 2004 and 2009 BJP had come out with a slogan India Shining during parliament elections. They did good marketing but the people of our country gave them a befitting reply by routing them.
Talking about the work done by Congress led UPA government, Rahul Gandhi said, 'In the past ten years the Congress-led UPA government took various steps to help our farmers, the poor and downtrodden. We waived off loans worth Rs 70000 crore of the poor farmers; opened the doors of the banks for them. When we were initiating these, the BJP tried to block it by asking from where we will have money for it. When we arranged financial resources for it they again opposed it by saying that we were wasting money. But we were determined and went on to implement these schemes.

Demolishing the myth of prosperity and job creation in Gujarat, Rahul Gandhi dubbed the state's growth model as a 'toffee model' where only a few big industrialists exponentially increase their wealth at the expense of the common man and weaker sections of the society, who continue to languish behind.
'In Gujarat, a piece of land as big as the urban area of Aurangabad was given to an industrialist by the Gujarat government for one rupee per square meter. In one rupee, you get toffee, not land. This is not Gujarat model, this is a toffee model,' he said at a massive public rally in Latur adding that only a few industrialists have prospered under the Narendra Modi led Gujarat government.
Rahul Gandhi also dismissed claims of job creation and poverty reduction in the state and highlighted that a model which favours only the rich cannot work for India. 'The BJP says that the Gujarat model has created jobs for the youth. Recently, Gujarat government opened up 1,500 jobs at a salary of merely Rs. 5,000 per month. 8.5 lakh youth lined up for those jobs. If they gave employment, why are 560 people turning up for one job.' he said adding that under this model neither farmers and the poor benefit, nor the small and medium enterprises.

And then they say that they want to help you...The ideology of the BJP is to make people fight among each other, and ensure that only a few industrialists get the benefits of progress. They have nothing to offer to the poor, the farmers, the backward castes and the weaker sections of the society,' he said.
