Rahul Gandhi addressing a public rally in Belgaum, Karnataka on 15 Feb, 2014

Addressing a public rally in Belgaum, Karnataka, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi said, Congress party and Belgaum's relationship goes back to 1924 when Mahatma Gandhi came here. People of Belgaum, he said, fought against the British rule.

'Karnataka is a state,' he said, 'which has progressed at a fast pace.'
'The state has made great progress in the field of Information Technology. How did this happen? It happened because of the hard-work and determination of the people of Karnataka.'

Dressed in the traditional headgear, Rahul Gandhi said, 'Congress party has been very much a part of this progress. For the last 60-70 years, the Congress party has been working with the people of Karnataka to bring about progress. I will give you a few examples. First, we set up institutions like HAL, BHEL and laid down the infrastructure for science and technology to blossom in the state.'

'Then Congress party fought for the rights of the poor. When our CM Devraj ji was there, he worked to uplift the poor, dalits and backward sections. The foundation for Karnataka's progress was laid down in those years under the 20-point and Garibi Hatao programs.'

Rahul Gandhi addressed a public rally at Sirsa, Haryana on April 06, 2014.

Rahul Gandhi today told the people of Haryana that their state does not need the 'Gujarat model' to grow and that such a model would be detrimental to the interests of the poor, farmers and backward classes. He also cautioned the voters against being misled by the big speeches and false dreams marketed by the BJP.

The Congress Party released its manifesto more than ten days ago, after wide consultations with people from all over the country while the BJP hasn't released their Manifesto even 1 day before the elections. Close to 5 lakh people gave their inputs for the manifesto. Rahul Gandhi himself held close to 40 meetings with different groups, such as rickshaw pullers, farmers, coolies, daily wage labourers, among others, to seek their views and inputs.

Rahul Gandhi also said that while the Congress believes in listening to and taking everybody along, the BJP divides people and spreads anger. He also elaborated on the plans of the Congress Party for the future. 'Our plan is to bring 70 crore people into the middle class in the next five years. We will provide right to shelter and healthcare.

Addressing a massive rally at the DDA ground in Dakshinpuri, Rahul Gandhi accused the Aam Aadmi Party of running away from Delhi after making false promises.
Acknowledging the Party's performance in the Assembly elections he said, 'We made mistakes that hurt the people of Delhi. We supported the opposition because we thought they had the people's mandate...But they did not fulfill their promises.' Rahul Gandhi said to a cheering crowd. 'The truth is that the people who were running the government here have run away to other states,' he said.

Rahul Gandhi addressed a public rally at Balod, Chhattisgarh on April 09, 2014.
Addressing the rally Rahul Gandhi said, 'Chhattisgarh is not a poor state. It has all resources. It is a rich state but the people are poor. The benefit of your resources does not reach the people. It goes to the pockets of a selected few. It goes to the people who propagate 'India Shining'.'

In 2004 and 2009 BJP had come out with a slogan India Shining during parliament elections. They did good marketing but the people of our country gave them a befitting reply by routing them.

Talking about the work done by Congress led UPA government, Rahul Gandhi said, 'In the past ten years the Congress-led UPA government took various steps to help our farmers, the poor and downtrodden. We waived off loans worth Rs 70000 crore of the poor farmers; opened the doors of the banks for them. When we were initiating these, the BJP tried to block it by asking from where we will have money for it. When we arranged financial resources for it they again opposed it by saying that we were wasting money. But we were determined and went on to implement these schemes.

Rahul Gandhi Addressing a Public Rally at Latur, Maharashtra on April 14, 2014

Rahul Gandhi addressed a public rally at Latur, Maharashtra on April 14, 2014.

Demolishing the myth of prosperity and job creation in Gujarat, Rahul Gandhi dubbed the state's growth model as a 'toffee model' where only a few big industrialists exponentially increase their wealth at the expense of the common man and weaker sections of the society, who continue to languish behind.

'In Gujarat, a piece of land as big as the urban area of Aurangabad was given to an industrialist by the Gujarat government for one rupee per square meter. In one rupee, you get toffee, not land. This is not Gujarat model, this is a toffee model,' he said at a massive public rally in Latur adding that only a few industrialists have prospered under the Narendra Modi led Gujarat government.

Rahul Gandhi also dismissed claims of job creation and poverty reduction in the state and highlighted that a model which favours only the rich cannot work for India. 'The BJP says that the Gujarat model has created jobs for the youth. Recently, Gujarat government opened up 1,500 jobs at a salary of merely Rs. 5,000 per month. 8.5 lakh youth lined up for those jobs. If they gave employment, why are 560 people turning up for one job.' he said adding that under this model neither farmers and the poor benefit, nor the small and medium enterprises.
