Rahul Gandhi addressed a public rally in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh on March 20, 2014. Addressing the huge turnout, Rahul Gandhi attacked the opposition for mocking the party for the work it has done for the poor people. Speaking amidst an enthusiastic crowd, Rahul Gandhi highlighted the progress that Himachal Pradesh had made with the Congress Party. 'We have increased the supply of drinking water in Dharamshala, enabled successful irrigation work in Una, and set up an industrial area in Kinnaur. The state government has approved Rs. 1700 crore and 62 new industries, which will bring manufacturing jobs for the youth of Himachal,' said Rahul Gandhi. He also spoke about the Himachal-Ladakh tunnel that will enhance connectivity in the region.
Stating that the opposition makes false claims about development of infrastructure, the Rahul Gandhi highlighted that the UPA government made three times the number of roads in five years in comparison to the NDA government for the same period. He also mentioned that the opposition was against statehood for Himachal, but today tries to take the credit for creating the state, a decision that was actually taken by the Congress.
Rahul Gandhi stressed that revamping the education system, to provide better access to higher education opportunities would be a priority for the Congress in Himachal. Already this year, 15 new degree colleges and 4 new medical colleges have been set up in Himachal Pradesh..
