Complying with the Supreme Court direction, Karnataka government released Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu and will continue to do so for the next ten days.
After an all party meeting, chief minister Siddaramaia said that the govt has decided to abide by Supreme court ruling, however the state would also approach the apex Court with a modification petition explaining its difficulties in implementing the court order, directing release of 15,000 cusecs per day to Tamil Nadu for next ten days.

Following a Supreme Court order on the release of Cauvery river water to neighbouring Tamil Nadu a large-scale protest has broken out on the highway connecting Karnataka and Tamil Nadu on Tuesday. . Protesters have burnt tyres and blocked a major highway in Karnataka. Karnataka State Road Transport has pulled off 700 buses from the road. The shutdown has been called in Mandya in southern Karnataka - the volatile heartland of the Cauvery basin - by farmers who are protesting the Supreme Court order in which the court had ordered Karnataka to release 15,000 cusecs every day to Tamil Nadu for 10 days.

As the Cauvery water dispute heats up, acts of violence are being reported in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
Naam Tamilar Katchi party workers in Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu vandalised a bus from Karnataka and threatened its driver. A Kannadiga eatery was attacked with petrol bombs in Chennai’s Royapettah on Monday. Miscreants hurled crude petrol bombs damaging the glass doors of New Woodlands Hotel.
The attack comes day after a video showing a Tamil Nadu youth being assaulted by a group in Karnataka went viral on social media.
Incidents of violence have been reported in Karnataka as well.
Protests over Supreme Court’s order to release 12,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu were witnessed in Karnataka.
Supreme Court, in its new judgement, has asked people not to take law into their hands.
According to reports, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah will write to Jayalalithaa after attacks on hotel and buses linked to Cauvery row.

कावेरी जल बंटवारे को लेकर तमिलनाडु और कर्नाटक के बीच जारी विवाद थमने का नाम नहीं ले रहा है.पिछले दिनों हुई हिंसा में तमिलों पर हमले के विरोध में आज तमिलनाडु बंद है..बंद को सफल बनाने के लिए डीएमके समेत तमाम सियासी दल सड़क पर हैं... चेन्नई में भी डीएमके कार्यकर्ताओं ने प्रदर्शन किया है। यहां डीएमके की नेता कनिमोझी भी मौजूद रहीं। पुलिस ने कनिमोझी को हिरासत में ले लिया। साथ ही चेन्नई में ही प्रदर्शन कर रहे डीएमके नेता एमके स्टालिन को भी हिरासत में लिया गया है, जबकि MDMK चीफ वाइको को भी पुलिस ने हिरासत में लिया है। वहीं तमिलनाडु के किसानों ने सैदापेट रेलवे स्टेशन के पास पटरियों पर लेटकर प्रदर्शन किया। जिससे ट्रेनों का आवाजाही कुछ देर के लिए बंद रही...बंद का तमिलनाडु में व्यापक असर देखा जा रहा है. राजधानी चेन्नई समेत तमाम इलाकों में दुकाने, दफ्तर, स्कूल कॉलेज बंद दिख रहे हैं. स्थिति को देखते हुए तमाम इलाकों में पुलिसकर्मियों की तैनाती बढ़ा दी गई है...आपको बता दें कि सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने कर्नाटक को 15 हजार क्यूसेक पानी तमिलनाडु को देने को कहा था. इसी मुद्दे को लेकर तमाम जगहों पर विरोध प्रदर्शन हुए. सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने 5 सितंबर को अपने आदेश में बदलाव करते हुए कर्नाटक से कहा कि वह 20 सितंबर तक तमिलनाडु को 12,000 क्यूसेक कावेरी का पानी दे. यह फैसला आने के कुछ ही घंटे बाद हिंसा शुरू हो गयी थी.
