भगवान विष्णु के अवतार श्री कृष्ण को समर्पित जगन्नाथ मंदिर 800 साल से भी ज्यादा पुराना है। न सिर्फ झंडा बल्कि मंदिर से जुड़ी ऐसी कई रहस्यमयी बातें हैं जो दुनियाभर के लोगों को हैरान करती है। जगन्नाथ पुरी मंदिर के ऊपर लगे ध्वज को हर दिन बदला जाता है। ये ध्वज मंदिर के शिखर पर मौजूद सुदर्शन चक्र के पास लगा होता है। इस झंडे को ‘पतित पावन बाना’, तो वहीं बाकी ध्वज को ‘मानसिक बाना’ कहा जाता है। आपको बता दें कि बाकी अन्य झंडे श्रद्धालु देते हैं और पतित पावन बाना को मंदिर के पुजारी लगाते है। झंडे पर शिवाजी का चंद्र बना होता है। यही ध्वज हवा के विपरीत दिशा में लहराता है। मान्यता है कि अगर इस ध्वज को एक दिन भी नहीं बदला गया, तो 18 वर्षों के लिए मंदिर बंद हो जाएगा। और इसी से जुड़ा एक वीडियो आप भी देखें...

Thousands of devotees gather at Puri to celebrate the Chariot Festival in Odisha.
Ratha yatra, the Festival of Chariot : Chariots of Shri Jagannath is celebrated every year at Puri, the temple town in Odisha, on the second (dwitiya) day of shukla pakshya (waxing cycle of moon) of Ashadh Maas (3rd month in Lunar Calendar). The festival is also known as Gundicha Jatra, Ghosa Jatra, Navadina Jatra, Dasavatara Jatra and by a variety of other names. The presiding deities of the Jagannath Temple, Puri's main temple, Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra, with the celestial wheel (Sudarshana Chakra) are taken out from the temple precincts in an elaborate ritual procession to their respective chariots. The huge, colourfully decorated chariots are drawn by multitude of devotees on the bada danda, the grand avenue to the Gundicha Temple (Gundicha - King Indradyumna's Queen), two miles away to the North. On their way back from the Gundicha Temple, the three deities stop for a while near the Mausi Maa Temple (Aunt's abode) and have an offering of the Poda Pitha, which is a special type of pancake supposed to be the Lord's favourite. After a stay for seven days, the deities return to their abode.
