Jared Remy, son of Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy was arrested Friday in the fatal stabbing of his girlfriend, Jennifer Martel.

Martel, 27-years-old is the mother of a four-year-old daughter that 7News was told was in the apartment when Martel was stabbed to death.

The victim's best friend said the two were engaged, though she said Remy has been accused of assault and battery before, most recently Tuesday night. He was accused of attacking Martel and was released on his own recognizance.

'Waltham Police Department responded to multiple 911 calls for a residence at 1203 Sterns Hill Road in Waltham. Upon arrival they discovered a female later identified as Jennifer Martel outside of the apartment. Ms. Martel had sustained multiple stab wounds. Immediately began an investigation, as a result of that investigation, the interviewing of witness and the collection of evidence an individual identified as Jared Remy, date of birth 09/07/78 was placed under arrest. Mr. Remy will be arraigned this morning on the charges of murder, assault and battery in a domestic situation and assault with a dangerous weapon,' Marian Ryan, Middlesex Co. District Attorney said in a press conference Friday morning.

The Middlesex district attorney said that the focus is a murder investigation and the arraignment planned for Jared Remy. She also said they will be reviewing the decision to release him on personal recognizance Wednesd.
