Jared Remy, son of Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy was arrested Friday in the fatal stabbing of his girlfriend, Jennifer Martel.
Martel, 27-years-old is the mother of a four-year-old daughter that 7News was told was in the apartment when Martel was stabbed to death.
The victim's best friend said the two were engaged, though she said Remy has been accused of assault and battery before, most recently Tuesday night. He was accused of attacking Martel and was released on his own recognizance.
'Waltham Police Department responded to multiple 911 calls for a residence at 1203 Sterns Hill Road in Waltham. Upon arrival they discovered a female later identified as Jennifer Martel outside of the apartment. Ms. Martel had sustained multiple stab wounds. Immediately began an investigation, as a result of that investigation, the interviewing of witness and the collection of evidence an individual identified as Jared Remy, date of birth 09/07/78 was placed under arrest. Mr. Remy will be arraigned this morning on the charges of murder, assault and battery in a domestic situation and assault with a dangerous weapon,' Marian Ryan, Middlesex Co. District Attorney said in a press conference Friday morning.

Remy, 34, pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in Waltham District Court on murder and assault and battery charges in the death of 27-year-old Jennifer Martel.
According to WBZ-TV’s Karen Anderson, Remy came into court looking angry and showed no remorse as Prosecutor Lisa McGovern revealed grisly details about the attack.
Police were called to a home on Stearns Hill Road in the Windsor Village apartment complex around 9 p.m. Thursday for a report of a person stabbed.
Investigators say there was a long, protracted struggle in Remy’s townhouse that went through the kitchen, stairs, living room and outside onto the patio.
Several people who heard the fight called 911.
Witnesses told officers they saw Remy on the patio stabbing Martel repeatedly with a knife. One person tried to help break up the struggle, but Remy allegedly swung the knife at him.
McGovern said Remy was covered in blood when police arrived at the scene. According to court documents, he also had a diamond ring in a sunglasses case. The couple reportedly got engaged in 2009 and had been together for seven years.
Remy’s attorney claimed cuts on Remy’s head and hands were “defensive wounds.”
