Colombian pop star Shakira and Barcelona defender Gerard Pique on Wednesday announced the birth of their son Milan.
'We are pleased to announce the birth of Milan Pique Mebarak, son of Shakira Mebarak and Gerard Pique, on January 22 at 9:36 pm (2036 GMT), in Barcelona, Spain,' the pair said on Twitter.
They said Milan 'means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in Ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification. Just like his father, baby Milan became a member of FC Barcelona at birth'.
The baby weighed in at almost three kilograms (6.6 pounds) and both Shakira and Milan 'are in excellent health', the singer and the football star said in their statement.
In Bogota, Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos sent his congratulations to the couple 'on behalf of Colombia and my family' via Twitter.
Pique irked much the world's media late last month by announcing his girlfriend had given birth -- but then revealing it was a prank.
The announcement had also been made on Twitter. 'Our boy has already been born! We are very happy! Thank you all for your messages!' he said.
But the message came on the 'Day of the Innocents' when people in Spain play practical jokes on each other.
Later Pique seemed to be letting fans know it was a joke in a second message: 'He already has a name! He is called Innocent! Happy Day of the Innocents to all!'

The pop star gave birth at 9.36 p.m. to a boy weighing almost 3 kg and both the mother and child are 'in perfect health', the communique stated.
Shakira was admitted to the private Teknon clinic at 6.30 p.m. accompanied by her boyfriend, F.C. Barcelona soccer star Gerard Pique.
In the communique, the couple and the family said: 'We are happy to announce the birth of Milan Pique Mebarak, son of Shakira Mebarak and Gerard Pique ... The name Milan (pronounced MEE-lahn), means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification'.
Since early Tuesday morning, numerous reporters and photographers had remained on alert outside the clinic, given recent rumours that this would be the day the child would be born.
On Tuesday morning, before the birth, Shakira had tweeted, 'I'd like to ask you all to accompany me in your prayers on this very important day of my life.'
The baby was delivered by previously-scheduled Caesarean by a medical team headed by Dr. Carlota Garcia-Valdecasa.

Milan Pique Mebarak was born at 9:36 p.m. Tuesday in Barcelona, Spain, according to an announcement posted on Shakira's website. Mebarak is Shakira's seldom-used surname.

The 35-year-old Colombian singer first revealed her pregnancy in September, canceling a scheduled weekend concert appearance at a music festival in Las Vegas.
Last week, a black-and-white photo on her website showed a pregnant Shakira, wearing a bikini top, standing beside her 25-year-old boyfriend, who plays for Spain's FC Barcelona.
The couple called for donations to UNICEF as part of a 'world baby shower' for them to raise money for gifts such as polio vaccines, therapeutic food and rehydration salts 'for the benefit of babies everywhere.'
