In case you're wondering you've heard this news before, you should know that the earlier news was a prank and that Colombian singer Shakira gave birth to her first child - a boy - in a Barcelona hospital on Tuesday, and this time her family confirmed in a communique!
The pop star gave birth at 9.36 p.m. to a boy weighing almost 3 kg and both the mother and child are 'in perfect health', the communique stated.

Shakira was admitted to the private Teknon clinic at 6.30 p.m. accompanied by her boyfriend, F.C. Barcelona soccer star Gerard Pique.

In the communique, the couple and the family said: 'We are happy to announce the birth of Milan Pique Mebarak, son of Shakira Mebarak and Gerard Pique ... The name Milan (pronounced MEE-lahn), means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification'.
Since early Tuesday morning, numerous reporters and photographers had remained on alert outside the clinic, given recent rumours that this would be the day the child would be born.
On Tuesday morning, before the birth, Shakira had tweeted, 'I'd like to ask you all to accompany me in your prayers on this very important day of my life.'

The baby was delivered by previously-scheduled Caesarean by a medical team headed by Dr. Carlota Garcia-Valdecasa.

    Pique irked much the world's media late last month by announcing his girlfriend had given birth -- but then revealing it was a prank.
    The announcement had also been made on Twitter. 'Our boy has already been born! We are very happy! Thank you all for your messages!' he said.
    But the message came on the 'Day of the Innocents' when people in Spain play practical jokes on each other.
    Later Pique seemed to be letting fans know it was a joke in a second message: 'He already has a name! He is called Innocent! Happy Day of the Innocents to all!'

    The baby, weighing in at a robust 8 pounds and 6 ounces, is third in line to the British throne, behind his grandfather, Prince Charles, and his joyful dad.

    “We could not be happier,” the 31-year-old William said in a statement.
    For now, the name of the regal newcomer remains a mystery.
    But his arrival was greeted noisily in London. “May he be long-lived, happy and glorious and one day reign over us. God save the queen!” said town crier Tony Appleton as he shouted the news on the steps of St. Mary’s Hospital in west London, where Middleton, 31, had given birth.

    Early indications were that the pregnancy — relentlessly scrutinized since it was first announced in December — concluded smoothly.
    “Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well and will remain in hospital overnight,” said a statement from the royal family.
    The infant’s formal title is His Royal Highness the Prince of Cambridge. As for his name, it will be revealed “in due course,” the family statement said.

    The newest addition to the Royal family who becomes third in the line to the throne, ahead of Prince Harry, was born naturally, it was said.
    A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: 'The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh are delighted at the news.''
    The announcement was made in an email, and minutes later a notice was also placed on an easel on the forecourt of Buckingham Palace. The easel was the same one that was used when Prince William was born.
    A short time afterwards, the details were released via Twitter. The baby is 8lbs 6oz, heavier than Prince William, who weighed 7lbs 1oz when he was born on June 21, 1982.
    The baby will officially be known as HRH Prince (name) of Cambridge.
    The Queen, other senior members of the Royal family and the Middleton family had already been informed when the announcement was made.
    In line with royal tradition, the Duke and Duchess have not yet revealed the baby's name. The Duke of Cambridge was not named for a week after his birth, partly because his parents reportedly disagreed over names.
