Rahul Gandhi launched the National Youth Policy (NYP) and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyaan at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on February 21, 2014. The NYP 2014 spells out the vision of the Government for the youth of India and seeks to empower them in order to achieve their full potential. The UPA Government spends close to Rs. 90,000 crore for the development of youth, through programmes run by various ministries.
Rahul Gandhi congratulated the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports for bringing out the policy and launching Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyaan (RGKA).
'When you are involved in some form of sport, it gives you time to think clearly...More and more power should go to sports persons in deciding things pertaining to their field...we should look at building infrastructure and providing quality coaching to our young sports persons. Our aim should not only be to increase our medal tally but have sports as a way of life among our youth' said Rahul Gandhi.
'Our country is now at a point where we can bid for Olympics.' He said that sports associations are run by politicians but should be managed by sports people.
Notable sportspersons such as Mary Kom, Vijendra Singh, and P. Gopichand, and the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mr. Jitendra Singh were present at the event, among others.

While interacting with tribal groups in Assam, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi said other politicians visit and give speeches, but he had come to 'hear the voice of tribal's of Assam and address their grievances.'
Congress party, he said, believes in giving power to the people, which is in sharp contrast to the outlook of other political parties, who believe in 'centralized control'.
'More power to people will be better for the country. It would take India further on the path of development. That will happen only when 50 per cent of our population, that is women, are represented in decision making bodies,' Rahul Gandhi said.
While interacting with representatives of nine Tribal Autonomous Councils, he promised the issue of lack of funds would be addressed after carefully going through the nuances of the subject.
He thanked the people of Assam for their participation in the process of Primaries - a novel idea which has been implemented for the first time in country by the Congress party. Rahul Gandhi remembered Nido and wished for peace and unity across the country. He thanked the council chiefs for their cooperation and hard work toward nation building.
