Rahul Gandhi interacted with students in Assam on February 26, 2014. The interaction took place at Don Bosco University in Guwahati. Placing emphasis on the development of Northeast, the Rahul Gandhi said that the region needed better connectivity and the people of these states must feel comfortable in other parts of the country.
He also talked about women safety and empowerment saying that men must learn to respect women more. 'Some leaders talk about making India superpower. What superpower? I want women to be treated well in a bus than India becoming superpower,' said Gandhi.
Facing a range of questions from students, Rahul also spoke about Indian economy. 'Compared to almost every country, India is doing very well. We are the second fastest growing economy,' he said. 'Our transportation cost is high. The infrastructure needs to be improved. Besides, we must give encouragement to entrepreneurship by making funds available from banks.' he said.

While interacting with tribal groups in Assam, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi said other politicians visit and give speeches, but he had come to 'hear the voice of tribal's of Assam and address their grievances.'
Congress party, he said, believes in giving power to the people, which is in sharp contrast to the outlook of other political parties, who believe in 'centralized control'.
'More power to people will be better for the country. It would take India further on the path of development. That will happen only when 50 per cent of our population, that is women, are represented in decision making bodies,' Rahul Gandhi said.
While interacting with representatives of nine Tribal Autonomous Councils, he promised the issue of lack of funds would be addressed after carefully going through the nuances of the subject.
He thanked the people of Assam for their participation in the process of Primaries - a novel idea which has been implemented for the first time in country by the Congress party. Rahul Gandhi remembered Nido and wished for peace and unity across the country. He thanked the council chiefs for their cooperation and hard work toward nation building.
