MISS WORLD 2012 - WINNER - WEN XIA YU (MISS CHINA)
Amid much fanfare at Ordos, in China, Miss China PR, Wenxia Yu, was crowned the 62nd Miss World with Miss Wales Sophie Elizabeth Moulds as the 1st runner-up and Miss Australia Jessica Michele Kahawaty as the 2nd runner-up.
Miss China PR Wenxia Yu looked extremely gorgeous in a large blue colour gown as she was being crowned by reigning Miss World, Ivian Sarcos of Venezuela.
Narrowed down from top 15, the top 7 comprised Jamaica, South Sudan, India, Australia, Brazil, China PR, Wales.The 15 semi finalists included India, Mexico, Australia, Jamaica, China PR, Wales, South Sudan, England, Brazil, Spain, Phillipines, United States, Netherlands, Indonesia, Kenya.
The evening took off with a grand performance by Mongolian warriors, touted as China's most talented performing art, in between which the girls from 116 countries were introduced which included India's Vanya Mishra.
As anchors Jason Cook, and Tv host Klass Myleene - took to the stage and introduced the jury the audience broke into a thunderous applause.
India was awarded two subtitles Miss world Beauty with a Purpose 2012 and Miss Multimedia 2012. Miss china PR was also awarded Miss Talent 2012, Miss World 2012 Beach Beauty was Miss Wales. While South Sudan took away the Miss World 2012 Top Model award.Finally, Miss World Sports Woman 2012 was awarded to Miss S.
Miss China has been crowned Miss World 2012 on Saturday, as the 23 year old aspiring music teacher scooped the victory on the soil of her homeland, China.
The glitzy finale held on the edge of the Gobi desert saw the crowd erupt into cheers as Yu Wenxia won the 2012 beauty pageant. The fire works shot up and danced into the clear skies of China after the candidate brought the title home.
“When I was young I felt very lucky because so many people helped me, and I hope in the future I can help more children to feel lucky,' Yu said when quizzed as to why she should be crowned Miss World, according to a report by Hereld Sun.
Yu appeared on the stage in a dazzling array of ball gowns and stole the hearts of the audience as she sung a popular Chinese song during the two hour finale that was watched by an estimated one billion viewers world wide.
The city of Ordos, which rests more than 700 kilometers from the closest beach, would have been one of the most unlikely locations for a beauty pageant to be held. Nonetheless, over the years it has developed into one of the richest cities in China on the back of its coal mining boom. 'Ordos could be the next Dubai,' Marielle Wilkie, representing the Caribbean nation of Barbados, confidently predicted, while an Albanian contestant, Floriana Garo believes that the city will be booming in the nest 10 years, reports AFP.

Yu Wenxia, Miss China, Crowned Miss World 2012 China's Yu Wenxia has been crowned the 2012 Miss World.
This is the second time Miss China has been awarded the title. The last time was in 2007 when Zhang Zilin took the honor.
The first runner-up is Sophie Elizabeth Moulds of Wales and the second runner-up is Jessica Michelle Kahawaty of Australia.
The 23-year-old Yu is a music student who says she wants to become a music teacher.
This is the first time for the Inner Mongolian city of Ordos to host the international beauty pageant.
The city is one of the richest regions in China thanks to its abundant natural resources. It hopes the world event will raise its profile for economic development and tourism.
Sanya, another Chinese city, has hosted the contest several times.

On August 18th of this year, the 62nd edition of Miss World was held in Dongsheng Fitness Center Stadium, Ordos, Inner Mongolia, China. The winner…drum roll please…is Miss China’s Yu Wenxia! This happens to be the second time in the history of the Miss World pageant that Miss China has won the title of Miss World, the first being in 2007 when Zhang Zilin won the honor. Miss China overcame more than 100 contestants at a glittering ceremony on the edge of the Gobi desert in a Chinese mining city.
This pageant stands out from others as it made a couple of firsts in its’ 62-year existence. For one thing, this was the first time that the Inner Mongolian city of Ordos has ever hosted the international beauty pageant. Though it is too early to be definitive, most likely this will not be the last time the pageant takes place here. Another first was the actual total of participants in the contest which was 116. These contestants came from all over the world to compete and made this year the biggest turnout in the pageants history.
The new Miss World is a 23-year-old music student who aspires to one day become a music teacher.
