Maria Montessori was born on August 31, 1870, in Chiaravalle, Italy. Her family later moved to Rome in 1875, where she was enrolled in a public elementary school when she was 6. Montessori was not a particular brilliant student early on, but that during her teens. She graduated from the technical school Regia Scuola Tecnica Michelangelo Buonarroti at the age of 20 and decided to study medicine further on, which was unheard of for females at the time.
After completing a pre-qualification course and overcoming a lot of hurdles, Maria Montessori enrolled for the medical program at the University of Rome in 1893. Here troubles didn't end there, as she faced discrimination from fellow students and faculty because of her gender. But Montessori carried on, winning an academic prize in her first year, and later securing a position as a hospital assistant, gaining early clinical experience. In her last two years she studied paediatrics and psychiatry, and worked in the paediatric consulting room and emergency service,

She was born on August 31, 1870, in Chiaravalle, Italy. A devout catholic and humanitarian she was known for her educational philosophy. Her method focussed on the individual potential and the freedom to pursue one’s dreams.
She was also the first Italian women to get a degree in medicine and she graduated from the university of Rome in 1896. Later, she opened her first pre-school in 1907 which eventually led to her opening Montessori schools.
Maria Montessori travelled to various counties between 1939 and 1946 to spread her educational system. Her visits also included India.
It’s worth noting, that both Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin were brought up us Montessori kids. Current Yahoo CEO, Marisa Mayer (Also Google employee number 20), revealed this to Steven Levy in the book ‘In the Plex’ and believed it to be one of the reasons for Google’s eccentric practices.

Maria Montessori was born on the 31st August 1870 in the town of Chiaravalle, Italy. Her father, Alessandro, was an accountant in the civil service, and her mother, Renilde Stoppani, was well educated and had a passion for reading.
The Montessori family moved to Rome in 1875, and the following year the young Maria enrolled in the local state school on the Via di San Nicolo da Tolentino. As her education progressed, she began to break through the barriers which constrained women’s careers. From 1886 to 1890 she continued her studies at the Regio Instituto Tecnico Leonardo da Vinci, which she entered with the intention of becoming an engineer. This was unusual at the time as most girls who pursued secondary education studied the classics rather than going to technical school.
Upon her graduation, Montessori’s parents encouraged her to take up a career in teaching, one of the few occupations open to women at the time, but she was determined to enter medical school and become a doctor. Her father opposed this course—medical school was then an all-male preserve—and initially Maria was refused entry by the head of school. She was undeterred, apparently ending the unsuccessful interview with the professor by saying, “I know I shall become a doctor”.
Eventually, it seems, Pope Leo XIII interceded on her behalf. In 1890 Montessori enrolled at the University of Rome to study physics, maths and natural sciences, receiving her

Her father, Alessandro Montessori, 33 years old at the time, was an official of the Ministry of Finance working in the local state-run tobacco factory. Her mother, Renilde Stoppani, 25 years old, was well educated for the times and was probably related to Italian geologist and paleontologist Antonio Stoppani.[1]

The Montessori family moved to Florence in 1873 and then to Rome in 1875 because of her father's work. Montessori entered a public elementary school at the age of 6 in 1876. Her early school record was 'not particularly noteworthy'[2], although she was awarded certificates for good behavior in the 1st grade and for 'lavori donneschi' the next year.[3]
Secondary school:

During his 40-year career Bass worked for some of Hollywood's most prominent filmmakers, including Alfred Hitchcock, Otto Preminger, Billy Wilder, Stanley Kubrick and Martin Scorsese. About ASHI, Haryana:
Association for Social Health in India (ASHI) is a Voluntary and Social Organization aiming at challenging those conditions that lead to exploitation of women and children for anti-social purposes by providing shelter for Destitute & Orphan children and arranging for their education, vocational training and rehabilitation are one of the Association’s main activities. The Governor of Haryana, their Chief Patron, visits the Home once a year to encourage and bless the children.
