'Host nation the Netherlands went into their last Pool B game against New Zealand knowing they could climb above Argentina at the top with a win or draw.
The Dutch side took only eight minutes to take a 1-0 lead with Valentin Verga finishing a reverse stick effort. In the 25th minute, the Netherlands thought they had increased their lead but a Seve van Ass goal was ruled out after a video referral showed the ball brushed his foot.
New Zealand came close to an equaliser early in the second half but Alex Shaw could not stretch far enough to get his stick onto a pass into the circle. It took a great piece of individual skill from Simon Child to put New Zealand level at 1-1 in the 63rd minute when he skipped past three tackles, swivelled, and fired past the keeper. The Dutch couldn't find a winner and the draw meant they had to settle with second place in the group and will face Australia in the semi-finals.

Day 6, game 3 and Argentina faced a tough task taking on unbeaten New Zealand. A win for the Lions would take them level on points and a win for the Kiwis would give them breathing space at the top.
The importance of the match was reflected in the tight nature of the first half. It was New Zealand though who shaded the half, with Simon Childs going closest, smashing an effort from distance onto the crossbar. Argentina had their keeper to thank later in the half when Vivaldi made a great save to deny Edwards a goal from close range.
The second half started with the game delicately poised at 0-0 and having failed to capitalise on their dominance in the first half, New Zealand were punished by Argentina when Gonzalo Peillat converted a penalty corner. New Zealand responded well to that disappointment though and equalised when Burrows free hit was deflected in off Stephen Jenness. The Argentinians, however, looked determined to punish New Zealand's profligacy in front of goal in the first half and Peillat was on target again just moments later from another penalty goal. Peillat wasn't finished there though and his habit of scoring from penalty corners continued and 10 minutes later heaped more misery on the Lions, completing his hattrick and moving Argentina level on points with New Zealand.
