ധനമന്ത്രി പീയുഷ് ഗോയിലിന്റെ അധ്യക്ഷതയില്‍ ചേര്‍ന്ന ജിഎസ്ടി കൗണ്‍സില്‍ യോഗത്തിലാണ് തീരുമാനം.അതേസമയം, അഞ്ച് കോടി രൂപ വരെ വിറ്റുവരവുള്ള വ്യാപാരികള്‍ക്ക് മൂന്ന് മാസത്തില്‍ ഒരിക്കല്‍ റിട്ടേണ്‍ സമര്‍പ്പിച്ചാല്‍ മതിയെന്നും യോഗത്തില്‍ തീരുമാനമായി.ജിഎസ്ടി നികുതിഘടന കൂടുതൽ യുക്തിസഹമാക്കുകയെന്ന ലക്ഷ്യത്തോടെയാണു നീക്കം. പൊതുജനാരോഗ്യവുമായി നേരിട്ടു ബന്ധമുള്ളതും അസംഘടിത തൊഴിൽമേഖലകൾ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നതുമായ ഉൽപന്നങ്ങളുടെ നികുതി കുറയ്ക്കണമെന്നു ജിഎസ്ടി നടപ്പായ 2017 ജൂലൈ മുതൽ ആവശ്യമുയർന്നിരുന്നു. പൊട്ടിനും കൺമഷിക്കുമില്ലാത്ത നികുതി എന്തുകൊണ്ടു നാപ്കിനു ചുമത്തുന്നുവെന്നു ഡൽഹി ഹൈക്കോടതി കേന്ദ്ര സർക്കാരിനോടു ചോദിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിരുന്നു.
ജിഎസ്ടിയുടെ ആദ്യവർഷം സർക്കാരിന് 7.41 ലക്ഷം കോടി രൂപ നികുതി വരുമാനം ലഭിച്ചെന്നാണു കണക്ക്. ഹോട്ടൽ ഭക്ഷണത്തിന്റെ നികുതി 5% ആയി കുറച്ചും ഇരുന്നൂറിലേറെ ഉൽപന്നങ്ങളുടെ നികുതി താഴ്ത്തിയും കഴിഞ്ഞ വർഷം നവംബറിൽ ജിഎസ്ടി നിരക്കിൽ സമഗ്ര അഴിച്ചുപണി നടത്തിയിരുന്നു.
