It is intended, writes the book's author, to 'set the record straight' about the events that led to her being incarcerated for four years in an Italian prison and characterised in sections of the international media as a sex-crazed 'she-devil'.
But while Amanda Knox has used her multimillion-dollar new memoir, published on Tuesday in the US, to insist again on her innocence of the murder of her flatmate, Meredith Kercher, in 2007, it seems unlikely that the book will, as she hopes, 'answer everyone's questions' about a killing that could yet see her prosecuted again over the British student's death.
Knox's book, Waiting to be Heard, was the subject of a publishing industry bidding war last year that resulted in her receiving a reported advance of $4m for her story. On Tuesday night in her first TV interview – part of an energetic publicity campaign by the publisher, Harper Collins – the 25-year-old, from Seattle, told ABC's Diane Sawyer she would 'like to be reconsidered as a person'. 'What happened to me was surreal. But it could have happened to anyone,' she said.

Recordings of American student Amanda Knox being questioned over the death of murdered student Meredith Kercher are to be played for the first time in a documentary to be shown tonight.
The recordings reveal a tearful Knox saying that she felt under pressure from the police to accuse an innocent man, Patrick Lumumba, of murdering Meredith.
American Knox was last month convicted for the second time of murdering Ms Kercher in the Italian town of Perugia in 2007 and faces being sent back to Italy to serve a 28-year sentence for the crime.
Her former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito was also last month found guilty having, like Amanda, successfully appealed against his previous conviction.
Immigrant Rudy Guede is the only one currently serving time in prison for the crime.
Now Meredith's family have spoken of the 'fear and terror' the British student must have felt on the night she was murdered.

Amanda Knox, convicted of murdering her British roommate Meredith Kercher, has nightmares and traumatic memories of her four years in Italian courts and prison. But she has only warm memories of Kercher and says she would like to visit her grave one day.
Knox talked about Kercher as well as her legal ordeal in an exclusive interview with ABC's Diane Sawyer. Her recall of those years has moments of regret, anger and sadness. Also among her emotions are warm thoughts of Kercher and empathy for her family.
'I want them to know,' Knox said, getting emotional, 'their grief has my every respect, has the respect of my family, and we just don't want to... we don't want to invade their life and their grief.'

'And I really want them to understand that my need for justice for myself is not in contradiction with theirs,' she said.
Knox recalled her short time, a mere six weeks, with Kercher, who was also studying in Perugia.
'She talked about how she wanted to be a journalist like her dad. And she talked about her sister. And if that's all I can give them is this memory that I have of her to add to... all of theirs that they can carry with them when she's gone.'
