US student tried for Meredith Kercher murder uses TV interview to restate innocence and ask to be 'reconsidered as a person'.
It is intended, writes the book's author, to 'set the record straight' about the events that led to her being incarcerated for four years in an Italian prison and characterised in sections of the international media as a sex-crazed 'she-devil'.
But while Amanda Knox has used her multimillion-dollar new memoir, published on Tuesday in the US, to insist again on her innocence of the murder of her flatmate, Meredith Kercher, in 2007, it seems unlikely that the book will, as she hopes, 'answer everyone's questions' about a killing that could yet see her prosecuted again over the British student's death.
Knox's book, Waiting to be Heard, was the subject of a publishing industry bidding war last year that resulted in her receiving a reported advance of $4m for her story. On Tuesday night in her first TV interview – part of an energetic publicity campaign by the publisher, Harper Collins – the 25-year-old, from Seattle, told ABC's Diane Sawyer she would 'like to be reconsidered as a person'. 'What happened to me was surreal. But it could have happened to anyone,' she said.

Amanda Knox, who was convicted and then cleared of murdering her British flatmate Meredith Kercher, says she may return to Italy to face a retrial.
'My lawyers have said that I don't have to... I'm still considering it, to be honest,' she told USA Today.
Ms Knox, 25, also went on US television to publicly protest her innocence as she released her autobiography.
Last month, an Italian court overturned her acquittal along with that of her ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito.
Meredith Kercher, 21, was found stabbed to death in the flat she shared with Ms Knox - an exchange student- in Perugia in November 2007.
Prosecutors say she died in a brutal sex game that went wrong.
Another man - Rudy Guede from Ivory Coast - was convicted in a separate trial and sentenced to 16 years for the killing.
The case has drawn intense media interest in Italy, the UK and the US, and put the Italian police and justice system under great scrutiny.
'Need for justice'
Ms Knox told USA Today on Tuesday that the thought of returning to Italy for the retrial was 'scary'.
'But it's also important for me to say: 'This is not just happening far away from and doesn't matter to me.'
'So, somehow, I feel it's important for me to convey that. And if my presence is what is necessary to convey tha

In her first television interview, the murder suspect says she wants to pay her respects at the grave of Brit Meredith Kercher.
Amanda Knox has said she wants to visit the grave of Meredith Kercher - but only with the permission of the murdered British student's family.
In her first television interview since being freed from an Italian prison, she said: 'Eventually I can have their permission to pay my respects at her grave and I would also like them to know that she talked about them to me.'
Italian prosecutors claim Miss Knox and her then-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, killed Miss Kercher, 21, in a drug-fuelled sex game along with another man in 2007.
Miss Knox's alibi rests on her claim that she was at Mr Sollecito's house on the night, and not at the Perugia flat she shared with Miss Kercher.
But during a police interrogation she admitted she was at home with Miss Kercher.
When questioned by ABC News' Diane Sawyer as she launched her book on her experience, she insisted the partial confession was the result of her 'breaking down'.
'I didn't confess. I was interrogated,' Miss Knox told ABC News. '(The police) acted like my answers were wrong, they told me I was wrong, that I didn't remember correctly, that I had to remember correctly, and that if I didn't I would never see her family.

Amanda Knox says in an interview that what happened to her was 'surreal but it could have happened to anyone.'
The Seattle native told ABC News' Diane Sawyer in an interview airing Tuesday night that 'I want the truth to come out. I'd like to be reconsidered as a person.'
In March, Italy's highest criminal court overturned Knox's acquittal in the 2007 murder of British student Meredith Kercher and ordered a new trial for Knox, 25. Italian law cannot compel Knox to return for the new legal proceeding.
Knox told Sawyer the high court's decision was 'incredibly painful' and she felt as if she had to crawl through another field of barbed wire after reaching what she thought was the end.
She said she was aware of being labeled a seductress, she-devil and other names in the media, but she said 'they're wrong.'
'I was in the courtroom when they were calling me a devil,' she told Sawyer in interview excerpts posted online. 'It's one thing to be called certain things in the media, and it's another thing to be sitting in a courtroom fighting for your life while people are calling you a devil.
'For all intents and purposes I was a murderer, whether I was or not. I had to live with the idea that that would be my life,' she said during the interview.
Italian prosecutors have said Knox, who was an exchange student studying in Perugia, Ita
