'I want to be reconsidered as a person': Amanda Knox reveals 'she-devil' taunts, murder trial and media publicity made people see her as something other than human.

Amanda Knox – the Seattle woman who spent four years in jail accused of the murder in Italy of her British roommate Meredith Kercher – has told an American television interviewer that she wants to one day visit the slain woman's grave.
Proclaiming her innocence in her first interview since being freed, Knox, 25, told ABC's Diane Sawyer that she wanted to pay her respects but only if the Kercher family agreed. 'Eventually I can have their permission to pay my respects at her grave and I would also like them to know that she talked about them to me,' she said.
'About how she wanted to be a journalist like her dad and she talked about her sister … if all I can give them is this memory that I have of her to add to all theirs that they can carry with them when she's gone.'
That does not seem likely. The Kercher family has dismissed suggestions of any reconciliation with Knox and frequently complained that the media coverage of the death has focused more on 'foxy Knoxy' than the victim.
Knox told Sawyer that on the night of Kercher's death she had sex, smoked a joint, and joked and chatted with Raffaele Sollecito, her boyfriend. Despite getting high she still knew what happened on that night, she said.
She told Sawyer: 'I want the truth to come out. I'd like to be reconsidered as a person.' She was aware of being labelled a seductress, a she-devil and

Amanda Knox's freedom is once again on the line.
After the Supreme Court of Italy annulled her acquittal last month, Knox now waits to go back on trial.
In an exclusive interview with ABC News' Diane Sawyer, Knox said of the decision, 'It was incredibly painful.'
Knox spent four years in prison before an Italian appeals court threw out her murder conviction in 2011 and she had been hoping the Italian Supreme Court would uphold the appeals court ruling and end her six-year ordeal.
'I felt like after crawling through a field of barbed wire and finally reaching what I thought was the end, it just turned out that it was the horizon,' Knox said. 'And I had another field of barbed wire that I had ahead of me to crawl through.'
Watch Amanda Knox in an exclusive interview with Diane Sawyer set to air Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET.
The marathon legal battle will continue for Knox and for her ex-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, who had been convicted along with her.
The court also refused to vacate her conviction for slander over her identifying her employer, Patrick Lumumba, as the person who killed Kercher. It was a statement, she claimed, she made under police duress.
Knox already served the three-year prison sentence for the slander conviction.
Knox's lawyer, Carlo Dalla Vedova, told ABC News he expects a new trial

In November 2007, Amanda Knox was catapulted from a free-living foreign exchange student smoking pot and watching movies with her new boyfriend to the prime suspect in a brutal murder case, and the focus of an international trial that captured the attention of the world.
Now five-and-half years after life as she knew it evaporated in an instant, she is finally telling her version of events and revealing the moment of horror when the butchered body of roommate Meredith Kercher was discovered in their Italian villa.
Setting the scene of another fun weekend for students at the University For Foreigners in Perugia, Knox, now 25, reveals in her new memoir, Waiting To Be Heard, how everything at that time “happened by chance.”
She met British student Meredith “by chance,” and then met Raffaele Sollecito at a string and piano quintet “by chance,” and he would ask her to be his girlfriend within three days.
Halloween offers an irresistible excuse for students to dress up in costumes and to party,” wrote Amanda, and the girls celebrated the night with different friends – a fact that prosecutors later claimed showed their friendship was fraying.
The next day – eerily All Saint’s Day, a national holiday in Italy to honor the dead – Amanda and Raffaele enjoyed a chilled-out couple’s night smoking a joint, playing The Beatles on the guitar and wa

Amanda Knox has protested her innocence in her first television interview since being freed from prison.
The 25-year-old student, who is facing a retrial over the killing of Briton Meredith Kercher in Italy in 2007, said: 'I'd like to be reconsidered as a person.'

Amanda Knox, who was convicted and then cleared of murdering her British flatmate Meredith Kercher, says she may return to Italy to face a retrial.
'My lawyers have said that I don't have to... I'm still considering it, to be honest,' she told USA Today.
Ms Knox, 25, also went on US television to publicly protest her innocence as she released her autobiography.
Last month, an Italian court overturned her acquittal along with that of her ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito.
Meredith Kercher, 21, was found stabbed to death in the flat she shared with Ms Knox - an exchange student- in Perugia in November 2007.
Prosecutors say she died in a brutal sex game that went wrong.
Another man - Rudy Guede from Ivory Coast - was convicted in a separate trial and sentenced to 16 years for the killing.
The case has drawn intense media interest in Italy, the UK and the US, and put the Italian police and justice system under great scrutiny.
'Need for justice'
Ms Knox told USA Today on Tuesday that the thought of returning to Italy for the retrial was 'scary'.
'But it's also important for me to say: 'This is not just happening far away from and doesn't matter to me.'
'So, somehow, I feel it's important for me to convey that. And if my presence is what is necessary to convey tha

US student tried for Meredith Kercher murder uses TV interview to restate innocence and ask to be 'reconsidered as a person'.
It is intended, writes the book's author, to 'set the record straight' about the events that led to her being incarcerated for four years in an Italian prison and characterised in sections of the international media as a sex-crazed 'she-devil'.
But while Amanda Knox has used her multimillion-dollar new memoir, published on Tuesday in the US, to insist again on her innocence of the murder of her flatmate, Meredith Kercher, in 2007, it seems unlikely that the book will, as she hopes, 'answer everyone's questions' about a killing that could yet see her prosecuted again over the British student's death.
Knox's book, Waiting to be Heard, was the subject of a publishing industry bidding war last year that resulted in her receiving a reported advance of $4m for her story. On Tuesday night in her first TV interview – part of an energetic publicity campaign by the publisher, Harper Collins – the 25-year-old, from Seattle, told ABC's Diane Sawyer she would 'like to be reconsidered as a person'. 'What happened to me was surreal. But it could have happened to anyone,' she said.
Kercher, a 21-year-old Leeds university student from Coulsdon, Surrey, died in a vicious knife attack while on a year's exchange prog

In her first television interview, the murder suspect says she wants to pay her respects at the grave of Brit Meredith Kercher.
Amanda Knox has said she wants to visit the grave of Meredith Kercher - but only with the permission of the murdered British student's family.
In her first television interview since being freed from an Italian prison, she said: 'Eventually I can have their permission to pay my respects at her grave and I would also like them to know that she talked about them to me.'
Italian prosecutors claim Miss Knox and her then-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, killed Miss Kercher, 21, in a drug-fuelled sex game along with another man in 2007.
Miss Knox's alibi rests on her claim that she was at Mr Sollecito's house on the night, and not at the Perugia flat she shared with Miss Kercher.
But during a police interrogation she admitted she was at home with Miss Kercher.
When questioned by ABC News' Diane Sawyer as she launched her book on her experience, she insisted the partial confession was the result of her 'breaking down'.
'I didn't confess. I was interrogated,' Miss Knox told ABC News. '(The police) acted like my answers were wrong, they told me I was wrong, that I didn't remember correctly, that I had to remember correctly, and that if I didn't I would never see her family.

Amanda Knox says in an interview that what happened to her was 'surreal but it could have happened to anyone.'
The Seattle native told ABC News' Diane Sawyer in an interview airing Tuesday night that 'I want the truth to come out. I'd like to be reconsidered as a person.'
In March, Italy's highest criminal court overturned Knox's acquittal in the 2007 murder of British student Meredith Kercher and ordered a new trial for Knox, 25. Italian law cannot compel Knox to return for the new legal proceeding.
Knox told Sawyer the high court's decision was 'incredibly painful' and she felt as if she had to crawl through another field of barbed wire after reaching what she thought was the end.
She said she was aware of being labeled a seductress, she-devil and other names in the media, but she said 'they're wrong.'
'I was in the courtroom when they were calling me a devil,' she told Sawyer in interview excerpts posted online. 'It's one thing to be called certain things in the media, and it's another thing to be sitting in a courtroom fighting for your life while people are calling you a devil.
'For all intents and purposes I was a murderer, whether I was or not. I had to live with the idea that that would be my life,' she said during the interview.
Italian prosecutors have said Knox, who was an exchange student studying in Perugia, Ita
