Nick Compton, the former England cricketer, was bemused after Ravi Ashwin didn’t get a single chance in the first four matches of the ongoing Test series. India have opted for one spinner, Ravindra Jadeja, in the playing eleven over the last few Tests. Despite being India’s leading wicket-taker in the current bunch of the bowlers, Ashwin has had to sit out.
The fact that Ashwin hasn’t played a single played a single Test on the tour has raised a lot of eyebrows. Compton didn’t mince any words in saying that Virat has ‘personal issues’ with Ashwin due to which the latter has had to sit out.
Team India have been dealt with a blow as Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara won’t be taking the field further in the fourth Test against England at the Kennington Oval in London. The 34-year-old Rohit has discomfort in his left knee and hence, would be sitting out. Rohit’s task with the bat in the ongoing Test is already over after he scored his maiden overseas Test ton.
Pujara’s job in the game is as good as over as well. The top-order batter has complained of pain in his left ankle and therefore, the team management didn’t take the risk of getting him on the field. Rohit and Pujara are currently under observation of the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) medical team. It remains to be seen if they can get fit for the fifth and final Test.
