‘Electric Shadow’ is the literal translation of the Mandarin term ‘Diàn-yïng’, which means ‘movies’. Centred on a festival of Indian documentary films in China, the film reflects on the dominant impressions of cultures as brought to us by the cinema. It
examines the idea of the cinematic image as an integral part of cultural propagation. West Heavens Project, an organisation engaged in cross-cultural exchange, organised a festival of Indian documentary films in China in 2011 where many Indian filmmakers, academics and visual-artists participated. A few years later, the
filmmaker revisits China and reflects on the places, landscapes and histories that come to us mediated through the cinematic image. Pondering on image-creation as an integral part of cultural propagation, he revisits the films at the festival and explores the mainstream impressions that they have left on both cultures.
Avijit Mukul Kishore is an acclaimed cinematographer and film maker based in Mumbai. An alumnus of FTII, Pune, he has worked in the Indian TV industry and has gone on to direct critically acclaimed documentaries which have been shown in

Padma Bhushan Saichiro Misumi is a former Executive Director of India Japan Association. Mr. Misumi is a 100-years old Japanese national, who was a close associate of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.
