Monica Lewinsky announced Monday a new campaign to fight cyberbullying and marked its launch by joining Twitter. “Having survived myself, what I want to do now is help other victims of the shame game survive, too,†she said in a speech at the Forbes' 30 Under 30 summit. “I want to put my suffering to good use and give purpose to my past.â€
Here's exactly what she's up against: Within hours of joining, her mentions feed on Twitter is already a cesspool of bullying and harassment. Apparently, Lewinsky has opted out of showing her mentions.
Issues with cyberbullying aren't limited to just high-profile figures. Average women face online harassment, too including serious threats of violence and even revenge porn. Amanda Hess has explained how social media giants typically handle such abuse: Women are told, 'Ignore the barrage of violent threats and harassing messages that confront you online every day.' Their default is to let abusive content stay up, since they are protected legally from what individual users post under the 1996 Communications Decency Act.

What to say about a book deal for Monica Lewinsky that will bring her a reported $12 million?
Slate points out Bill Clinton was paid $15 million for his memoir. It does seem wrong that the difference between the man who was a two-term president of the United States and the woman who had a sexual encounter with him was only $3 million. Or maybe sad.
Lewinsky has already told her story once, in 'Monica's Story.' She was interviewed for the book by author Andrew Morton, whose unauthorized biographies include the somewhat scandalous 'Diana, Her True Story' about the former Princess of Wales.
The new book is rumored to have three things that the earlier one did not: more salacious details about Lewinsky and Clinton, ostensible complaints by Clinton about his wife, Hillary, and Lewinsky's love letters to Clinton, previously unpublished.
The New York Post writes, “In them, she opened her heart about her love for Bill and how much happier she could make him,” said the source. “Some of what she wrote was so raw that she never sent them.'
It's been 15 years since Lewinsky's encounters with Clinton, and 14 since the story hit the airwaves. For those who remember the whole mess -- the surreptitious tape recordings, the denials and non-admissions, the Starr investigation -- it will come as no surprise that Lewinsky saved the letters.

The former White House intern, 39, is reportedly penning the book - including her intimate love letters to the ex-president and how he desired threesomes - for revenge on her former flame.
But friends say it could simply be a matter of cash for Lewinsky, who was left with massive legal debts and could never achieve her dream of 'losing 30 lbs, finding a boy, moving to Westchester County and having a family' after revelations of her Oval Office trysts with Clinton surfaced.
While Lewinsky has yet to sign a deal, it had previously been claimed that publishers were scrambling for the book and had offered her as much as $12 million.
'She may very well need the money,' a friend told MailOnline. 'That’s why she did the Andrew Morton [biography in 1998]. She had massive legal debts. It was a misconception that she came from a wealthy family. She's had trouble finding work.
