പാലമറ്റം-ആവോലിച്ചാൽ റോഡ് വഴി മൂന്നാറിനു പോകുകയായിരുന്നു. പാലമറ്റത്തിനു സമീപം ഇഞ്ചത്തൊട്ടി ഒന്നാം ബ്ലോക്കിനു സമീപത്തു വച്ചാണ് പാലം പണിക്ക് കുഴിച്ച 30 അടി താഴ്ചയിലേക്ക് കാർ തലകീഴായി മറിഞ്ഞത്. യാത്രക്കാർ അദ്‌ഭുതകരമായി രക്ഷപെട്ടു.
വ്യാഴാഴ്ച അർധരാത്രിയാണ് സംഭവം. തൃശ്ശൂർ വടക്കാഞ്ചേരി സ്വദേശികളായ പാറക്കളത്തിൽ ഗോകുൽദാസ് (23), പത്താംകല്ല് പുഴങ്ങര കുന്നംപിള്ളി വീട്ടിൽ ഇസഹാഖ് (29), മുസ്തഫ (36) എന്നിവരാണ് നിസ്സാര പരിക്കോടെ രക്ഷപെട്ടത്. കാർ സാമാന്യം നല്ല വേഗത്തിലായിരുന്നു. തൊട്ടടുത്തെത്തിയപ്പോഴാണ് റോഡില്ലെന്ന കാര്യം ശ്രദ്ധയിൽപ്പെട്ടത്. പെട്ടെന്ന് വലത്തോട്ട് വെട്ടിച്ച് മാറ്റുന്നതിനു മുമ്പേ താഴേക്ക് പതിച്ചു.
കൂരിരിട്ടും മഞ്ഞും മൂടിയ അവസ്ഥയിൽ എന്താണ് സംഭവിച്ചതെന്ന് ഇവർക്ക് ആദ്യം മനസ്സിലായില്ല.
കാറിന്റെ ചില്ല് താഴ്ത്തിയിട്ടിരുന്നതാണ് രക്ഷയ്ക്ക് വഴിതുറന്നതെന്ന് ഗോകുൽദാസ് പറഞ്ഞു. എട്ടടിയോളം വെള്ളത്തിലേക്കാണ് കാർ മറിഞ്ഞത്. വിജനമായ പ്രദേശത്ത് നീന്തൽ അറിയാത്ത മൂവരും കാറിൽ പിടിച്ച് 15 മിനിറ്റോളം കിടന്നു. പോത്തുപാറ റബ്ബർ കമ്പനിയിൽനിന്ന് രാത്രി ഷിഫ്റ്റ്‌ കഴിഞ്ഞ് ബൈക്കിൽ വരികയായിരുന്ന പുന്നേക്കാട് സ്വദേശികളായ ബെന്നി, റോയി, കുട്ടച്ചൻ തുടങ്ങിയ ആറംഗ സംഘമാണ് ഇവരെ രക്ഷപെടുത്തിയത്. വെള്ളക്കെട്ടിൽനിന്ന് രക്ഷിക്കണേയെന്നുള്ള നിലവിളി കേട്ട് ബൈക്കിന്റെ വെളിച്ചത്തിലാണ് കാറിൽ പിടിച്ച് കിടക്കുന്നവരെ കണ്ടത്. ഉടുമുണ്ട് കൂട്ടിക്കെട്ടി ഇട്ടുകൊടുത്താണ് മൂവരേയും കരയ്ക്ക് കയറ്റിയത്. പിന്നീട് ഇവരെ കുറച്ചകലെയുള്ള ഒരു വീട്ടിൽ കൊണ്ടുപോയാക്കി. വീഴ്ചയിൽ തലയും നെഞ്ചും ഇടിച്ച് ചതവും നിസ്സാര മുറിവും പറ്റിയിരുന്നു. കൈവശമുണ്ടായിരുന്ന 12,000 രൂപയും മൂന്ന്‌ മൊബൈൽഫോണും വെള്ളത്തിൽ പോയി. ഒരു ഫോണും 4,000 രൂപയും പിന്നീട് നാട്ടുകാർ മുങ്ങിയെടുത്തു.
ഉച്ചയോടെ ക്രെയിൻ എത്തിച്ച് കാർ പൊക്കിയെടുക്കുകയായിരുന്നു.
കാറിനൊപ്പം വെള്ളത്തിൽ പതിച്ചെങ്കിലും മനോധൈര്യം കൈവിടാതെ യുവാക്കൾ പരസ്പരം രക്ഷകരാകുകയായിരുന്നു.

अफज़लगढ़ क्षेत्र के भूतपुरी में नैशनल हाईवे पर उस समय एक हादसा हो गया जब गाय को बचाने के प्रयास में रूड़की के व्यापारियों की एक कार सड़क किनारे खाई में जा गिरी। गनीमत रही कि खाई में पानी कम होने के कारण कार सवार व्यापारियों को कोई नुकसान नही हुआ।
रूड़की निवासी कार सवार व्यापारी कृष्ण अरोड़ा ने बताया कि वह अपने दोस्तों के साथ नैनीताल कोर्ट में केस से संबंधित किसी कार्य के लिये गये थे। वहां से वापस लौटते समय जैसे ही वह भूतपुरी के निकट पहुंचे अचानक कार के सामने एक गाय आ गई जिसको बचाने के प्रयास में उनकी गाड़ी सड़क किनारे बने नाले को पार करते हुए पानी से भरे गड्ढे में जा गिरी। चीख पुकार सुनकर ग्रामीणों ने कार सवार व्यापारियों को बाहर निकाला। ग्रामीणों का कहना है कि निराश्रित पशुओं के सड़कों पर घूमने के कारण आए दिन सड़क हादसे होते रहते हैं। ग्रामीणों ने ऐसे पशुओं को पकड़कर गौशाला भिजवाने की मांग की है।
