അന്റാര്‍ട്ടിക്കയിലെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ കൊടുമുടിയായ മൗണ്ട് വിന്‍സന്‍ കീഴടക്കുന്ന അംഗപരിമിതയായ ആദ്യ വനിതയായി ഇന്ത്യയുടെ അരുണിമ സിന്‍ഹ. 2013ല്‍ എവറസ്റ്റ് കീഴടക്കുന്ന അംഗപരിമിതയായ ആദ്യ വനിതയെന്ന റെക്കോഡ് അവര്‍ സ്ഥാപിച്ചിരുന്നു. അരുണിമയുടെ നേട്ടത്തെ പ്രധാനമന്ത്രി നരേന്ദ്ര മോദി അഭിനന്ദിച്ചു. ഇന്ത്യയുടെ അഭിമാനമാണ് അരുണിമയെന്ന് മോദി അഭിപ്രായപ്പെട്ടു. മുന്‍ വോളിബോള്‍ താരമായ അരുണിമ പിന്നീട് പര്‍വതാരോഹണത്തിലേക്ക് തിരിയുകയായിരുന്നു.
ട്രെയിനിലെ ആക്രമണത്തിലാണ് അരുണിമയ്ക്ക് കാൽ നഷ്ടമായത്
2011ലാണ് അരുണിമയ്ക്ക് ഒരു കാല്‍ നഷ്ടമായത്. ലഖ്‌നൗവില്‍നിന്ന് പത്മാവതി എക്‌സ്പ്രസില്‍ ഡല്‍ഹിയിലേക്ക് പോകുമ്പോള്‍, കൊള്ളസംഘം അവരുടെ മാല പൊട്ടിക്കാന്‍ ശ്രമിച്ചു. ഇത് തടയാനുള്ള ശ്രമത്തില്‍ അരുണിമ ഓടിക്കൊണ്ടിരുന്ന ട്രെയിനില്‍ നിന്ന് വീഴുകയായിരുന്നു. വീണത് അടുത്തുള്ള ട്രാക്കിലേക്കാണ്. നിര്‍ഭാഗ്യത്തിന്, ആ ട്രാക്കിലൂടെ മറ്റൊരു ട്രെയിന്‍ വരുന്നുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. അതിനടിയില്‍പെട്ട് അരുണിമയുടെ ഒരു കാല്‍ ഛേദിക്കപ്പെട്ടു. ഓള്‍ ഇന്ത്യ ഇന്‍സ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് ഓഫ് മെഡിക്കല്‍ സയന്‍സസില്‍ നാല് മാസത്തെ ചികിത്സ. ഇതിനിടെ, ഒരു സ്വകാര്യ സ്ഥാപനം അരുണിമയ്ക്ക് കൃത്രിമകാല്‍ നല്‍കി. കാല്‍ നഷ്ടമായിട്ടും ജീവിതത്തോട് തോല്‍ക്കാന്‍ അവര്‍ ഒരുക്കമായിരുന്നില്ല. പര്‍വതാരോഹണത്തിലേക്ക് തിരിഞ്ഞു.
