2011ലാണ് അരുണിമയ്ക്ക് ഒരു കാല്‍ നഷ്ടമായത്. ലഖ്‌നൗവില്‍നിന്ന് പത്മാവതി എക്‌സ്പ്രസില്‍ ഡല്‍ഹിയിലേക്ക് പോകുമ്പോള്‍, കൊള്ളസംഘം അവരുടെ മാല പൊട്ടിക്കാന്‍ ശ്രമിച്ചു. ഇത് തടയാനുള്ള ശ്രമത്തില്‍ അരുണിമ ഓടിക്കൊണ്ടിരുന്ന ട്രെയിനില്‍ നിന്ന് വീഴുകയായിരുന്നു. വീണത് അടുത്തുള്ള ട്രാക്കിലേക്കാണ്. നിര്‍ഭാഗ്യത്തിന്, ആ ട്രാക്കിലൂടെ മറ്റൊരു ട്രെയിന്‍ വരുന്നുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. അതിനടിയില്‍പെട്ട് അരുണിമയുടെ ഒരു കാല്‍ ഛേദിക്കപ്പെട്ടു. ഓള്‍ ഇന്ത്യ ഇന്‍സ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് ഓഫ് മെഡിക്കല്‍ സയന്‍സസില്‍ നാല് മാസത്തെ ചികിത്സ. ഇതിനിടെ, ഒരു സ്വകാര്യ സ്ഥാപനം അരുണിമയ്ക്ക് കൃത്രിമകാല്‍ നല്‍കി. കാല്‍ നഷ്ടമായിട്ടും ജീവിതത്തോട് തോല്‍ക്കാന്‍ അവര്‍ ഒരുക്കമായിരുന്നില്ല. പര്‍വതാരോഹണത്തിലേക്ക് തിരിഞ്ഞു.

Association for Social Health in India (ASHI) is a Voluntary and Social Organization aiming at challenging those conditions that lead to exploitation of women and children for anti-social purposes by providing shelter for Destitute & Orphan children and arranging for their education, vocational training and rehabilitation are one of the Association’s main activities.
