In yet another shocking case of police insensitivity and arrogance, a Delhi police cop slapped a woman protester on Friday. Scores of people protested outside the hospital where the five-year-old girl who was sexually assaulted in Gandhi Nagar area of East Delhi several times by her neighbour is fighting for her life. The girl, who was assaulted, said that she had been slapped because she had refused to move out of the way to allow politicians to enter the hospital. Meanwhile, the cop who slapped the girl is suspended.

ACP Bani Singh Ahlawat was caught on camera hitting the woman and pushing away another. A spokesperson of the Delhi Police called the incident shameful and said an inquiry had been ordered against him.
'They should have been handled the situation calmly,' Rajan Bhagat said. He added that women officers were deployed near the hospital.
Regarding the progress in investigations, Bhagat said teams had been despatched and the main accused would be arrested soon.
Regarding reports that the policemen offered bribe to the survivor's father to remain silent about the incident, Bhagat said that if the charges were proved true, strict action would be taken against the guilty.
East Delhi MP Sandeep Dikshit and Health Minister AK Walia were reportedly heckled by protesters outside the Dayanand Hospital where the minor rape survivor is admitted. The neighbours of the child, along with her family members, were protesting against the slow action of the police, and their reported demand for a bribe of Rs 2000 to suppress the case.

A 23-year-old Indian woman, whose gang-rape aboard a bus in New Delhi spawned days of mass protests across India, has died, according to a doctor who was treating her at a Singapore hospital.
The woman 'passed away peacefully' at 4:45 a.m. Saturday (3:45 p.m. ET Friday), with her family and Indian officials at her side, Dr. Kelvin Loh, chief executive officer at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, said in a statement.
The woman had been in 'extremely critical condition' since being admitted Thursday to the Singapore hospital, and Loh had said Friday that she'd 'taken a turn for the worse.'
'She had suffered from severe organ failure following serious injuries to her body and brain,' Loh said. 'She was courageous in fighting for her life for so long against the odds, but the trauma to her body was too severe for her to overcome.'
Authorities haven't released the name of the rape victim, but protesters are calling her Damini, which means 'lightning' in Hindi. 'Damini' also is a 1993 Bollywood film whose lead female character fights for a housemaid, a victim of sexual assault.
