A Delhi Police officer was placed under suspension for hitting a woman protester outside the hospital where the 5-year-old rape survivor is undergoing treatment. ACP Bani Singh Ahlawat was caught on camera hitting the woman and pushing away another. A spokesperson of the Delhi Police called the incident shameful and said an inquiry had been ordered against him.
'They should have been handled the situation calmly,' Rajan Bhagat said. He added that women officers were deployed near the hospital.
Regarding the progress in investigations, Bhagat said teams had been despatched and the main accused would be arrested soon.
Regarding reports that the policemen offered bribe to the survivor's father to remain silent about the incident, Bhagat said that if the charges were proved true, strict action would be taken against the guilty.
East Delhi MP Sandeep Dikshit and Health Minister AK Walia were reportedly heckled by protesters outside the Dayanand Hospital where the minor rape survivor is admitted. The neighbours of the child, along with her family members, were protesting against the slow action of the police, and their reported demand for a bribe of Rs 2000 to suppress the case.
