A hockey player has died of a snake bite in Australia's tropical Northern Territory.
The 26 year old victim, Karl Berry, was reportedly cleaning at Marrara Hockey Centre in Darwin on Tuesday when he was bitten by a snake.
Berry, captain of the Commerce-Pints hockey team, believed that it was just a non-venomous python snake and so just picked it up and threw it back into the bushes. He did not immediately feel any affects from the bite and so just finished cleaning up and then went for a run.
The bite was reportedly on the man's hand, but was not overly painful and there were no signs that it was a venomous potentially life-threatening bite.
So Berry went on his scheduled 1.2 mile training run, however, at some point during the run he collapsed.
Emergency services were called, and St. John's Ambulance operations manager Craig Garraway has reported to local media that when paramedics arrived Berry was still conscious.
It was not immediately apparent though what was wrong with the man, and officials have said that it took Berry 15 minutes with paramedics before he even thought to mention the snake bite that he had received earlier in the day.
However, by the time paramedics found out the cause of Berry's condition it was too late and he died on Wednesday.

A hockey player has died in Australia after being bitten by a snake - a rare fatality despite the country being home to the majority of the planet's deadliest species.
Karl Berry, 26, is believed to have picked up the snake to remove it from a hockey training pitch in Darwin which children were using. He then went for a run but later collapsed.
St John Ambulance operations manager Craig Garraway told the Northern Territory News: 'For 10 to 15 minutes we tried to figure out what he had been doing and he mentioned he had removed a snake and put it into bushes.
'I think he thought it was a python.'
He said that when paramedics looked at the bite mark, it was more consistent with a bite from a venomous species, possibly a brown snake.
'After some discussion and investigation we became aware he had picked up a snake off the hockey field and it had actually bitten him on the finger.'
Mr Berry later died in the Royal Darwin Hospital.
According to official estimates, there are about 3,000 snake bite cases in Australia every year, with 300 to 500 requiring anti-venom treatment.
Only an average of two a year prove fatal.
Australia is home to 20 of the world's 25 most venomous snakes.

अफज़लगढ़ के मौहल्ला नेज़ा सराय में सांप के काटने से एक युवती की मौत हो गई। युवती की मौत के बाद क्षेत्र मे सांप की मौजूदगी से दहशत फैल गई।
जानकारी के अनुसार मौहल्ला नेज़ा सराय निवासी एक युवती घर में काम कर रही थी उसी समय अचानक उसे सांप ने डस लिया। आनन-फानन में युवती के परिजन उसे उपचर के लिए अलग-अलग स्थानों पर ले गये लेकिन सांप का ज़हर इतना घातक था कि युवती की मौत हो गई। युवती की मौत के बाद स्थानीय लोगों में भी भय व्याप्त हो गया। जिसके बाद पूर्व पालिकाध्यक्ष जावेद विकार ने सर्प मित्र को बुलाया। कई घंटों की कड़ी मशक्कत के बाद सर्प मित्र बाबा करीम ने सांप को रेस्क्यू किया और जंगल में छोड़ दिया। बताया जा रहा है कि जिस युवती की सांप के काटने से मौत हुई थी उसकी 2 माह बाद शादी होनी थी। युवती की मौत से परिजनों में भी कोहराम मचा हुआ है।
