A spectator in the crowd was injured by a six hit by young batter Ayush Badoni while Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) were chasing a target of 211 runs set by Chennai Super Kings (CSK). In match six of the Indian Premier League (IPL), LSG managed to pip the defending champions with three balls to spare.
Needing 34 runs in the last two overs, skipper Ravindra Jadeja gave the ball to medium-pacer Shivam Dube. Sensing an opportunity to make full use of that over, Badoni was sitting deep inside the crease. As Dube bowled a short of a length delivery, Badoni swiped the ball hard towards deep square leg and it went on to hit a lady in the stands.
Even though the ball hit the spectator, she seemed to be fine. Meanwhile, both Badoni and player of the match Evin Lewis (55* off 23 balls) took full toll of the over and scored 25 runs.

South Africa’s Dewald Brevis made the headlines during the ICC U10 World Cup 2022. The tournament happened in West Indies and India emerged as victorious for the record fifth time. But Brevis hogged all the limelight for his excellent batting performance for South Africa. His team got knocked out in the quarter final but he ended the World Cup as the highest run-getter.
Overall, he scored 506 runs at an average of 84.33 and a strike-rate of more than 90. No wonder, he was going to be a hot pick at the IPL mega auction. The youngster had kept his base price at 20 lakh and he triggered a bidding war between as many as four teams. CSK, PBKS, LSG bid for Dewald Brevis but in the end, it was the five-time champions Mumbai Indians who managed to secure his services at 3 crore which is a very good amount given his base price.
Dewald Brevis is known as ‘Baby AB’ in South Africa as his batting stance and timing have a striking resemblance to AB de Villiers. In fact, the South African dugout was seen holding a placard that read ‘BABY AB!’ Interestingly, despite being known as Baby AB, RCB didn’t even bid for him.
While he is known as ‘Baby AB’, the emerging cricketer is also a die-hard fan of De Villiers in real life. He played for the Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool (Affies) and coincidentally, it is the same school from where his inspiration ‘Mr.360’ had done his schooling. Brevis has so far amassed 362 runs averaging 90 and a strike rate of 86 and currently, he remains the leading run-scorer of the 2022 U19 World Cup. The youngster has a century and three half-centuries to his tally.
In an interview to ICC, Dewald Brevis also said that he is a big fan of AB de Villiers and that he loves watching him bat as well. Moreover, he also dons the jersey number 17 and had asked De Villiers before donning that number.

The IPL 2022 clash between the Gujarat Titans and the Lucknow Super Giants at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on March 28 saw the senior pacer Mohammed Shami running through LSG’s top-order with the new ball in hand in the powerplay overs to leave them in a spot of bother. However, Lucknow also found an unlikely hero in Ayush Badoni who carried out the rescue act for the new entrants when it appeared that they would be dismissed cheaply.
Badoni played a tremendous innings under pressure as he propelled LSG to a fighting total of 158/6 from their 20 overs with a splendid knock of 54 runs off 41 deliveries at an impressive strike rate of 131.7 that included four fours and three sixes. The 22-year-old was involved in an 87-run stand with middle-order batter Deepak Hooda for the fifth wicket before being involved in a 40-run sixth-wicket stand with Krunal Pandya.
