Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli’s struggle with the bat continued in a group stage match against the Lucknow Super Giants, as he scored a golden duck. To note, run-machine Kohli has been going through a hard phase in his international career as well and has not been able to produce the kind of performances that cricket fans are used to seeing from him.
In IPL 2022, Kohli has scored only 119 runs in seven games. While the right-handed batter has made some poor shot selections, he has also been a little unlucky including run-outs which has been a rare sight for the star player. Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer and domestic heavy-weight Wasim Jaffer shared a hilarious meme on his official Twitter account, to sum up, Kohli’s luck with the bat in recent times.
Coming back to the dismissal, Sri Lanka express pacer Dushmantha Chameera had taken the wicket of opener Anuj Rawat off the previous delivery and the former skipper Kohli had to come to the crease on just the sixth ball of the innings. The express pacer bowled a short-length delivery in the off-stump region that was too close to cut. However, the right-handed batter who likes to take the ball on the bat right from the word go, tentatively poked and it went straight into the hands of the point fielder Deepak Hooda.
Talking about Kohli’s numbers in the IPL, the right-handed batter has played a total of 214 matches in which he has scored 6402 at a decent average of 36.79. He has also stroked 42 fifties and five centuries in the history of the tournament.
Meanwhile, RCB after facing some early jolts in the innings made a strong comeback on the back of an excellent knock from captain Faf du Plessis (96 off 64 balls) and ended on 181/6 in their allotted 20 overs. For LSG, pacer Chameera and Jason Holder scalped two wickets each. Left-arm spinner Krunal Pandya also scalped a wicket for his side.

The Mumbai Indians (MI) have struggled to secure even a single win in six appearances of the IPL 2022. Currently, they are facing arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Match 33 of the tournament at DY Patil Sports Academy, and former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer suggested some changes in strategy for the MI team and their key players.
Jaffer feels that the team sends a strong message when they invite their best bowlers to deliver the first over of the innings. According to Jaffer, Bumrah needs to bowl the first over of the match for the MI, and the team needs to stop being defensive. He reckoned that the pacer can pick a couple of wickets in the powerplay overs and help the team gain momentum.
“When you bring your best bowler onto the first over, it does send a message. [Ruturaj] Gaikwad is not in that good nick, and [Robin] Uthappa can get out to his inswinging delivery. You don’t mind Bumrah bowling the first over and another one in the fourth or fifth over. You don’t want to bring him when the batter is playing at 30. The Indian Premier League 2022 has already seen more than half the scheduled games being culminated. In the first half of the season, the pitch was suited to the batters, with their being some purchase for the pacers. The team often chose to chase down the score due to the dew factor in the second innings. On 30th April, Rajasthan Royals (RR) will don the special jersey in a tribute to their former captain Shane Warne in their ninth fixture of the Indian Premier League 2022. Earlier this year, Warne passed away in Thailand due to a suspected heart attack. The Royals are said to have been wearing SW23 jerseys, due to 23 being the jersey number of the former Australian spinner.
Warne featured in a total of 55 IPL matches and scalped 57 wickets at an economy of 7.27. He was a part of the tournament from 2008 to 2011. The former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer discussed the greatness of Warne to help the Royals to secure a victory in the inaugural season of the tournament.
Jaffer recalled that the Royals lost their first fixture of the 2008 season against Delhi Daredevils badly and no hopes were pinned on them to do well in the tournament. He mentioned that the team had some low-key players, who didn’t have much experience in any form of cricket, and Shane Watson was also dropped from the Australian side at that time due to his bad form.
“In IPL 2008, to win the trophy with that team was terrific. I remember their first game when they were thrashed by Delhi Daredevils and the match was over in 15-16 overs. With this performance, it looked as if they were gonna finish in the last position. In the batting department, the team had Ravindra Jadeja (of 2008), Swapnil Asnodkar, and people didn’t know Yusuf Pathan.
