COVID-19 has breached the Indian camp on the England tour. After Ravi Shastri, the RT-PCR results of bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach R Sridhar have also returned positive results for the virus. There is no information yet on the reports of the fourth member physiotherapist Nitin Patel who also underwent RT-PCR test after being deemed as a close contact of Shastri.
All the four members are currently missing from India’s dressing room since Day 4 of the ongoing Oval Test as head coach’s Ravi Shastri’s lateral flow test returned positive. The other three support staff members were also isolated in their respective hotel rooms as they all underwent RT-PCR tests. Shastri, meanwhile, is also experiencing COVID symptoms like sore throat.

The former all-rounder took to Twitter and made a spree of posts that went viral in no time. Party was certainly on his mind as Shastri’s dashing pictures gave fashion goals to several youngsters. Ashwin recently opened up in detail regarding an incident featuring Ravi Shastri and Kuldeep Yadav, which hurt me completely. “I hold Ravi bhai in high esteem. We all do. And I understand we all can say things and then retract them. In that moment, though, I felt crushed. Absolutely crushed. We all talk about how important it is to enjoy your team-mates’ success. And I was happy for Kuldeep. I have not been able to get a five-for but he has a five-for in Australia. I know how big it is. Even when I have bowled well [at other times], I haven’t ended up with a five-for,” said Ashwin.
Detailing further on the topic, Ashwin made a point that to enjoy a teammate’s success, one needs to feel part of the team but that was not the case with him. The senior spinner felt being thrown under the bus but still joined the celebration as India had won the massive series Down Under.

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has responded to Ravichandran Ashwin’s ‘I felt crushed’ admission. While speaking at an event, Shastri, in his inimitable style, clarified that him giving Kuldeep Yadav a chance was only fair as the latter had bowled well on the Australia tour, while Ashwin was not a part of the playing XI in Sydney.
Shastri stood by his words and went on to reckon that he is glad to know he hurt Ashwin as that forced him to do “something different”, while adding that he would have taken such comments from his coach as a “challenge”, attempting to prove himself.
“[R] Ashwin did not play the Test in Sydney and Kuldeep [Yadav] bowled well. So, it’s fair I give Kuldeep a chance,” Shastri said in a conversation with Indian Express e.Adda. “If that hurt Ashwin, I am very happy. It made him do something different. My job is not to butter everyone’s toast. My job is to state facts without agenda.”
“If your coach challenges you, what will you do – go home crying and say I won’t come back? I, as a player, would take it as a challenge, to prove the coach wrong. If my statement on Kuldeep hurt Ashwin, I am glad I made that statement. It made him do something different.”
“The way Ashwin bowled in 2019 and the way he has bowled in 2021 is chalk and cheese. About throwing Ashwin under the bus, he need not worry because I had told the bus driver to stop 2-3 feet short. The message to Ashwin in 2018 was that he had to be fit. He has worked on that and look how’s bowling now. He’s world-class,” Shastri added.
Ashwin, in his recent interview with ESPNcricinfo, admitted that he felt crushed when Shastri labeled Kuldeep as India’s No.1 overseas spinner. He added that even though he wanted to feel happy for his teammate’s success, he was surrounded by a feeling of lack of belongingness.

“Virat can focus on red-ball cricket and lead for as long as he wants to lead in Tests. It will allow him to sit back and think on his game because he’s got a good 5-6 years left in him,” Shastri said.
Earlier this week, Shastri had also said that Sourav Ganguly, BCCI’s president, should come out to give his side of the story, after Kohli’s claims during his press conference. He also mentioned that both parties could have settled this matter with better communication.
“Virat has given his side of the story, it needs the board president to give his side of the story. With good communication, the situation could have been handled better,” Shastri had said.
