The Mumbai Indians (MI) have been disappointing with their performances in IPL 2022, and are winless in eight appearances. The team has failed on the fronts of opening partnerships and lacklustre bowling performances. The middle order has done well, but not enough to take the team home. The team management has taken some decisions, which have not gone well with the fans as well as the cricket pundits.
The former Indian cricketer turned commentator, Deep Dasgupta spoke on the inclusion of the all-rounder Tim David in the MI Playing XI for their fixture against Rajasthan Royals. He reckoned that the team has invested so much in acquiring the services of Tim David, but has not given him enough opportunities in the ongoing season. He mentioned that the youngster has done well in the PSL 2021/22 and deserved a chance due to his consistent performances in the other franchise leagues as well.
“You have invested so much in Tim David. In the recent PSL, he scored a good amount of runs. In the other franchise leagues as well, he has scored runs in a consistent manner for the last six months. He could not get enough opportunities, and I think he is someone for the future. If you talk about Tilak Varma, Dewald Brevis, then he is also a work in progress,” said Dasgupta on Sky247.net presents ‘Not Just Cricket’ Show on CricTracker.
Dasgupta further added that David is an impactful player in this format and even if he performs in one out of four games, he will win that game, which he has shown in the T20 leagues. The former cricketer welcomed the inclusion of the youngster and hopes that he will be able to get a fair opportunity to showcase his talent. He also added that MI team management needs to think of the future and assess the players in the right manner.

For example, if the teams like Netherlands and Ireland do well in their respective group, they can be up against the strong cricketing nations like India or Australia in a bilateral test series.
In the current Indian Premier League model, there is no place for Promotion and Relegation. However, this system can only allow the games to be more competitive, and the matches having more context, due to the two groups being divided ahead of the current season based on the performance of the teams in the previous season.
In the County Championship, there are Division I and Division II, and the overall span of the tournament is down due to the matches of both divisions being played at the same time at different venues. Former Indian cricketer, Deep Dasgupta has shared his views on would he like to see promotion and relegation in the future editions of the IPL.
