OXNARD, California - An Oxnard teacher who was fired after her past as a porn actress was discovered by students lost her legal bid to regain her job.
Stacie Halas, a science teacher at Richard B. Haydock Intermediate School, was fired by the school board last April on the grounds that her role in pornography disrupted the classroom environment.
Halas appealed her firing before the Commission on Professional Competence.
On Tuesday, her attorney Richard Schwab said a three-judge panel unanimously decided the 32-year old was unfit for the classroom.
During a hearing last fall, Schwab had argued that Halas did not star in pornographic movies while teaching in any district.
He said Halas acted in them during an eight-month period from 2005 to 2006 because of financial duress.
Nitasha Sawhney, one of two lawyers representing the school district, said Halas repeatedly lied to school administrators about her acting career at the same time students were viewing the explicit videos.
'This case is about whether the students of the Oxnard School District are required to incorporate into their learning environment the choice Ms. Halas made to be a porn star,' Sawhney said.
The investigation began when students approached administrators at the school and told them they had seen a female teache.

Judge Julie Cabos-Owen said such a past matters in an age when technology makes porn easy to access and hard to bury.
'Although her pornography career has concluded, the ongoing availability of her pornographic materials on the Internet will continue to impede her from being an effective teacher and respected colleague,' Cabos-Owen said in the 46-page decision issued Friday by the Commission on Professional Competence.

At a hearing Thursday, Halas made an emotional plea, saying that her first porn shoot made her feel 'dirty' and 'shameful.' She let herself down, she said, but felt trapped because she needed cash as her parents and sisters couldn't even afford groceries.
Her lawyer, Richard Schwab argued in court that Halas, 32, was done with the X-rated business when she started her job as a seventh- and eighth-grade teacher at the Oxnard, Calif. school in 2009. Furthermore, while porn might not be a respected industry, it is still legal, and Halas only resorted to the profession because she needed the money.
'I think most of us have something in our backgrounds,' Schwab told NBC Los Angeles after the hearing. 'And I ask anybody here to cast the first stone.'
Oxnard school officials are unsympathetic. They say that they never knew she had appeared in pornographic videos until April, and that lying to her boss was grounds for dismissal, according to district spokesman Tom DeLapp. He said the fact that Halas listed being a lifeguard and working at Subway as prior employment but omitted her porn star past “is very telling.”

The teacher, Stacie Halas, 31, was removed from her classroom at Richard B. Haydock Intermediate School in Oxnard on Monday, according to the Smoking Gun (via Newser), three days after pupils at the school said they saw her in a series of X-rated clips.
'Maybe it's not a crime as far as the penal code is concerned, but we feel it's a crime as far as moral turpitude is concerned,' said Jeff Chancer, superintendent of the Oxnard school district.
School administrators sent a note to parents Wednesday noting that teachers were discouraging students from searching for and visiting the inappropriate sites.
'We ask that you be particularly vigilant over the next few days with respect to the Internet content being accessed by your child on his or her telephone or other Internet-ready device,' the letter read.
