Congress President Sonia Gandhi while speaking at the Congress' chintan shivir at Jaipur said, 'I must say with the greatest anguish and pain that the discrimination against the girl child continues and atrocities against women in both urban and rural India are a blot on our collective conscience and is a matter of great shame. The way we still treat widows, female foeticide, the trafficking of children, brazen sexual harassment are very disturbing trends which should shake us and awake us. Gender issues are fundamental; they should be a matter of concern for all of us; it is not of just Mahila Congress or any other women organizations.
