The mere sight of Miss Alabama Katherine Webb on national TV, and the words of ESPN commentator Brent Musberger to provide the context, were enough to send the Twitter follower count of Crimson Tide QB AJ McCarron’s girlfriend skyrocketing.
Webb’s first sighting, at the 4:33 mark of the first quarter in Monday's BCS National Championship Game, resulted in an instant spike in traffic across the interwebs, and that also spread to Webb’s Twitter account (@_KatherineWebb). Prior to the game, Miss Alabama had about 2,000 followers. As of 1 a.m. ET Tuesday, she was above 104,000; one of them was Miami Heat star LeBron James. James later unfollowed Webb.
Webb provided simple words of encouragement several hours before the game: “Go get ‘em babe.” #RTR
After the game, which Alabama won, 42-14, Webb said she had no idea she had become an online sensation. She told freelance journalist Chris Pollone her phone had gone dead before the Musburger reference.
McCarron told reporters he wasn't upset about the sudden attention being paid to Webb.
“I’m not the jealous type. I know she’s good looking. … I’m the one who’s blessed,” he said, according to SI.com's Andy Staples.
As for the whole LeBron following thing?
'Seriously? I'm going to Tweet him and I'm going to get a follow. That's messed up,' he said, according to Clay Travis of the blog Outkick the Cove

When it comes to drooling over Katherine Webb, Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron's model girlfriend, we didn't think it could get any creepier than Brent Musburger's awkward on-air moment during Monday night's BCS Championship game. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, Dockett publicly hit on Miss Alabama by asking if she'd be willing to join him for some wings and a good time at a gentlemen's club. Not to mention, he also shared his phone number with the world (we removed the last four digits, and by the time we called, it went straight to a full voicemail box).
Making this entire situation worse (read: even more hilarious), Dockett deleted those tweets after realizing he had made a mistake.

AAlabama star quarterback AJ McCarron isn't the only one preparing for the BCS National Championship Game, because his lovely girlfriend Katherine Webb is getting just as amped.
As we reported last month, McCarron began dating a former Miss Alabama who is also a graduate of Auburn.
The QB, as it seemed, was dating the enemy.
There remains one thing that will get an Auburn grad well into Alabama's corner, and that's dating the quarterback who is just hours away from competing for a BCS title.
Auburn fans may want to look away, because Busted Coverage spotted evidence Webb has completely changed sides.

The first half of the BCS championship game needed something entertaining, so enter AJ McCarron's girlfriend Katherine Webb, and Brent Musburger's comments on her.
With the score already 14-0 in the first quarter, the ESPN cameras found Webb, who was sitting with McCarron's mom, Dee Dee Bonner, and this exchange took place with Musburger and Kirk Herbstreit:
After calling Webb, who is Miss Alabama, a 'lovely lady,' 73-year-old Musburger started to provide some analysis.

'You quarterbacks, you get all the good looking women,' Musburger said. 'What a beautiful woman.'
'Wow!' Herbstreit said.
'Whoa!' Musburger chimed in.
'AJ's doing some things right down in Tuscaloosa,' Herbstreit said.
'If you're a youngster in Alabama, start getting the football out and throw it around the backyard with pop,' Musburger said.

Who is the star of the BCS National Championship Game? So far, it’s AJ McCarron’s girlfriend Katherine Webb.
Webb, who is 2012 Miss Alabama and an Auburn graduate, is trending on Twitter after she was shown on TV during the game.
Webb placed in the Top 10 at the Miss USA pageant, but was eliminated before the final question stage.
Shortly after she was shown on national TV, she was adding over 100 followers a second.
Webb was born in Montgomery, Alabama. She attended middle school and high school in Columbus, Georgia and graduated from Northside High School in 2007. She then attended Auburn University. She graduated from Auburn in May 2011 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management and Administration.

WWhen the Alabama Crimson Tide jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the BCS National Championship, ESPN badly needed something to hold the viewers' attention.
It's a good thing A.J. McCarron's girlfriend and mother were in the crowd.
After just 11 minutes of game time, about 200 yards of Crimson Tide offense and limited signs of life from the Fighting Irish, things got a little weird:
Yes, that would be Brent Musburger and Kirk Herbstreit-but mostly Musburger-gushing over a few of McCarron's best supporters.
It may have been just a tad bit creepy, but at least it gave the broadcast some entertainment value during a game that was quickly getting out of hand.
