The mere sight of Miss Alabama Katherine Webb on national TV, and the words of ESPN commentator Brent Musberger to provide the context, were enough to send the Twitter follower count of Crimson Tide QB AJ McCarron’s girlfriend skyrocketing.

Webb’s first sighting, at the 4:33 mark of the first quarter in Monday's BCS National Championship Game, resulted in an instant spike in traffic across the interwebs, and that also spread to Webb’s Twitter account (@_KatherineWebb). Prior to the game, Miss Alabama had about 2,000 followers. As of 1 a.m. ET Tuesday, she was above 104,000; one of them was Miami Heat star LeBron James. James later unfollowed Webb.
Webb provided simple words of encouragement several hours before the game: “Go get ‘em babe.” #RTR

After the game, which Alabama won, 42-14, Webb said she had no idea she had become an online sensation. She told freelance journalist Chris Pollone her phone had gone dead before the Musburger reference.

McCarron told reporters he wasn't upset about the sudden attention being paid to Webb.

“I’m not the jealous type. I know she’s good looking. … I’m the one who’s blessed,” he said, according to SI.com's Andy Staples.

As for the whole LeBron following thing?

'Seriously? I'm going to Tweet him and I'm going to get a follow. That's messed up,' he said, according to Clay Travis of the blog Outkick the Cove.
