മഹാരാഷ്ട്രയില്‍ കുഷ്ഠരോഗികളുടെ എണ്ണം പെരുകുന്നതായി റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ട്. ഈ വര്‍ഷം മാത്രം സംസ്ഥാനത്ത് റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ട് ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടത് 5004 കുഷ്ഠരോഗ കേസുകളാണ്. ഇതില്‍തന്നെ 41% പേര്‍ ഗുരുതരമായ രീതിയില്‍ രോഗം ബാധിച്ചവരാണ്.
ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതല്‍ കുഷ്ഠരോഗികളുള്ളത് പാല്‍ഘട്ടിലാണ്.
514 പേര്‍ക്കാണ് ഇവിടെ രോഗം ബാധിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത് 345 രോഗികളുമായി ഗട്ചിരോളിയാണ് തൊട്ട് പുറകില്‍ .തീവ്രമായ രീതിയില്‍ രോഗം ബാധിച്ചവരില്‍ 11 % പേര്‍ കുട്ടികളാണ്.
കുഷ്ഠരോഗികളിലെ മള്‍ട്ടി ബാസിലറി കേസുകള്‍ മഹാരാഷ്ട്രയില്‍ വളരെ കൂടുതലാണെന്നും റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ടുകളുണ്ട്. മള്‍ട്ടി ബാസിലറി ബാധിച്ച രോഗബാധിതരില്‍ ബാക്ടീരിയകളുടെ എണ്ണം കൂടുതലായിരിക്കും. മാത്രമല്ല രോഗം മറ്റുള്ളവരിലേക്ക് പടരാനുള്ള സാധ്യതയും ഇത്തരക്കരില്‍ വളരെ കൂടുതലായിരിക്കും.
2017 സെപ്റ്റംബര്‍ 5നും 20നുമിടയ്ക്കും സര്‍ക്കാര്‍ നടത്തിയ സര്‍വ്വെയിലാണ് കുഷ്ഠരോഗികളെ കുറിച്ചുള്ള ഏറ്റവും പുതിയ വിവരം ലഭിച്ചത്. 22 ജില്ലകളിലായി 4 കോടി ജനങ്ങള്‍ക്കിടയിലാണ് സര്‍വ്വെ നടത്തിയത്.
ലോകാരോഗ്യസംഘടനയുടെ അഭിപ്രായത്തില്‍ കുഷ്ഠരോഗം പകരുന്നത് എങ്ങനെയെന്ന് ഏറ്റവും കൃത്യമായ വിധത്തില്‍ ഇനിയും തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ല
