In follow up to my earlier post entitled, A new Weiner sex scandal brewing? Or is it a pre-election smear job? (UPDATE: Weiner Owns up to Online Dalliances!), am I the only one who thinks that the unfurling of Weiner's latest sexting scandal was too easy.
Suspicious from the beginning, at first I thought that it might have been a smear job until I recalled Weiner warning New Yorkers a few weeks back additional reports would likely surface reference his continued indiscretions.

The one thing perhaps more surprising than New York mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner's admission that his sexting continued past his 2011 resignation from Congress? The fact that his wife, long-time Hilary Clinton aide Huma Abedin, would stand by his side.
'Anthony has made some horrible mistakes, both before he resigned from Congress and after,' Abedin said at a press conference Tuesday. 'But I do strongly believe that that is between us and our marriage. We discussed all of this before Anthony decided to run for mayor.'
She added, 'I love him, I have forgiven him, I believe in him, and as we have said from the beginning, we are moving forward.'
Abedin -- who penned a longer defense of her husband for Harper's Bazaar prior to this latest revelation -- is hardly the first political wife forced to decide if she would stand by her husband in the wake of a sex scandal.

Perhaps the most striking part of Anthony Weiner’s news conference Tuesday was that he wasn’t the only one who spoke. Weiner’s wife, Huma Abedin, vouched for her husband in no uncertain terms, after he acknowledged that he engaged in sexually explicit online conversations even after resigning from Congress.
Turns out Abedin’s support did virtually nothing to help or hurt Weiner’s chances in the New York City mayor’s race, according to one survey.
A WNBC/Marist/Wall Street Journal poll released Thursday shows that three of four New York City Democrats (73 percent) said Abedin’s support makes no difference in how much they trust Weiner as a mayoral candidate. And nearly as many Democrats said her support makes it less likely (12 percent) they will trust him as said it makes them more likely (15 percent) to trust him as a candidate.
The poll does not measure who did or did not watch the news conference, which was widely covered in local and national media. And the survey was conducted over just one day (Wednesday), a less-than-ideal sampling period.
It’s also possible that Abedin’s appearance may function like an endorsement. People say they are not affected by them, but sometimes the effect is subconscious, or people don’t want to admit it.
Time will tell what the ultimate effect is on Weiner’s image. But the early data show that the most unexpected part of Weiner’s news conference may also be the least consequential.

Sydney Leathers, a 23-year-old woman who says she exchanged lewd text messages with New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner, told Inside Edition's Jim Moret that she wants to apologize to Huma Abedin, Weiner's wife.
'I just feel very, very sorry for my part and the pain that she obviously feels,' the self-described 'political junkie' said, through tears.
Abedin offered her support for Weiner Tuesday, admitting their relationship has had 'its ups and its downs' but concluding, 'I love him, I have forgiven him, I believe in him and, as we have said since the beginning, we are moving forward.'
Leathers also said that Weiner had told her he loved her, and that she thought Weiner was jealous when other men posted comments on her Facebook photos.
Weiner stated Tuesday that only some allegations against him are true, but would not elaborate.
On Thursday, he admitting to engaging online with six to 10 women, including three after resigning from Congress.
In light of recent revelations, Weiner's polling numbers have plummeted.

In an extraordinary news conference Tuesday beside his wife, Huma Abedin, Weiner confirmed an account on the gossip site the Dirty, which reported a series of explicit conversations and lewd photos that the former congressman exchanged with a young woman, all apparently under the nom de plume Carlos Danger. Weiner, who resigned from office when his habit of tweeting dirty selfies became public two years ago, has repeatedly stated that other such digital indiscretions could surface, a point he made again Tuesday evening. But as his wife looked on, he also confirmed that some of those erotic messages were sent after his resignation from Congress, and well into his redemption tour, including after a July 2012 People magazine article in which Abedin said that Weiner had spent “every day” since the scandal working to be the “best dad and husband” possible.
Weiner, wearing a pen in the pocket of his blue shirt, said Tuesday he hoped the city’s voters would still “give me a second chance.” But this time, the acclaimed political showman served as the opening act. Abedin, who followed his comments, smiled broadly, nodded supportively and spoke confidently.

The married Weiner also apparently has a Rex Ryan-esque love of feet, according to TMZ, and Leathers provided at least one picture of herself in a pair of sparkling, sexy pumps.
The horny politician asked her for 30 photos during their six-month affair — often requesting shots of her feet in heels, Leathers told TMZ.
Sexy feet are a fetish of Weiner’s, who fantasized about meeting her in a “hotel room and you are at the end of the bed naked except for some amazing (expletive) shoes,” according to text messages revealed earlier this week.

Earlier this week, new details surfaced about Weiner continuously sending sexually explicit messages to women on the Internet, even after he resigned from Congress and sat for a redemptive People magazine spread with his wife and newborn son.
To make matters even more ridiculous, Weiner reportedly used the alias Carlos Danger online. The name has been mocked everywhere and the Post ran a lackluster cover on Tuesday with the headline, 'MEET CARLOS DANGER.'
On Wednesday, the Post seemed to step up its game from the day before, hitting a chord that the Associated Press and the New York Times had reported on as well -- how Abedin's loyalty to her husband has confused many New Yorkers. Wow. The lead story in the New York Post Thursday morning does something that tabloid rarely does these days, which is makes you look twice and and ask friends if they saw it: Huma Abedin, snapped in the street looking slick and unsympathetic in shades and on her phone, with the headline:
The colloquial idiom, unusually funny for the Post, crosses the line from mutterings about Abedin being loyal to a fault, which posher media have been issuing for days, to full-scale 'blaming the victim' – shifting the focus to the wife, whose support of her husband at his toe-curling press conference this week was widely taken as Too Bloody Much.
The narrative of Abedin-the-Saint and Weiner-the-Scoundrel has never been terribly convincing. Their joint PR drive to salvage his reputation prior to running for mayor was, even by the standards of these things, tediously smooth and nakedly cynical. Even at the time, with Weiner in full repentance mode, that New York Times interview with him three months ago presented as unpalatably calculating.
Personally, I couldn't get much past the photo. It was supposed to illustrate the couple's solidarity, working together in their shared home office, but there was something off about the scene. It looked as if every scrap of furniture had been bought the week before in a mad dash around Crate and Barrel, as set-design for a reality show about two hollow people in pursuit of high office.
