“I didn’t want to be known for this,” the 23-year-old told us Saturday. “I was a huge fan and admired him a lot.”
Instead of rock stars or actors, Leathers is into politicians, and she recalls first spotting Weiner on cable television. “He’d give these hyperbolic speeches on the House floor,” she said. “I was so impressed by them. He was so passionate, and it made me feel we cared about the same things.” When Weiner resigned in 2011, she sent him a Facebook message to express her disappointment in his behavior.
And that was that — until he wrote back in the summer of 2012 to apologize for letting her down. Leathers appeared at Weiner’s election night party at a restaurant in midtown Manhattan Tuesday night, clad in a low-cut red dress and blocking the entrance to the restaurant. Leathers seemed intent on confronting the man whose political comeback she says she ruined.
When Leathers was asked why she was outside Weiner’s primary party she replied, “I just felt like I should. I felt obligated after being this involved in the situation,” she answered.

Outside a 'victory' party where supporters mourned a disappointing fifth-place finish in the Democratic primary, cameras crowded around Leathers, the 23-year-old whose sexting with the former congressman brought his once-high-flying campaign to a screeching halt.
'Why not be here?' Leathers asked reporters. 'I'm kind of the reason he's losing. So, might as well show up.'

Leathers insisted that Weiner should focus on getting sex therapy instead of running for public office.
If Weiner were to ever run for political office again, Leathers said she would show up again.
'Of course, why not? He's going to continue this behavior. If it is not me, it is going to be another,' Leathers says.
