Camilla has revealed the royal family hopes William and Kate's baby will be born 'by the end of the week.'
During a visit to a children's hospice yesterday, she remarked: 'We don't know what's going to happen. We're all waiting at the end of a telephone.
'I hope by the end of the week he or she will be there.'
Prince Charles and Camilla started their annual summer tour of Devon and Cornwall yesterday in the popular tourist town of Bude.
Many mothers brought their babies to meet them - giving them ample opportunity to greet newborns before Kate gives birth.
Trudi Lindsay, from Bude, said she was 'delighted' her three-week-old daughter Ellie-Mae could see the royals.
Mrs Lindsay said: 'I said 'You have got one of these coming soon' and Charles replied 'Hopefully', then he laughed.
'He was very good with Ellie-Mae, he touched her cheek. I still can't believe Prince Charles touched my baby's cheek.
'It is really exciting to have them here in Bude, especially as the weather is so nice.'
Jenny Dawe, 62, who works in a local shop, showed the royals her selection of cards.
'I said 'You will need a new baby card soon' and they laughed,' Mrs Dawe said.

THE Duke and Duchess of Cambridge reportedly left for London suddenly on Friday afternoon (local time), fuelling speculation of a royal birth.
Multiple media reports said the pair left the Middleton residence for London at around 3.30pm with police escorts in tow.
LIVE STREAM FROM LONDON
Initially it was not known whether the Duchess was being transported directly to the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital, where she is due to give birth, or back home to Kensington Palace.
Kate's dog in dramatic rescue
It is understood the couple went to Kensington Palace.
A Palace spokesperson declined to reveal where the royal couple were headed when contacted by media outlets.
The Duchess has been dividing her time between her official London residence at Kensington Palace and her parents' home in Bucklebury, Berkshire.
A Kensington Palace spokesman previously said: 'The same as any expectant parents would be, they're now spending their time privately.'
The Duke is with his wife because he is on annual leave and his two-week paternity leave will begin when the baby is born.
Kensington Palace has maintained strict silence on the exact due date and has since said it would not be providing running commentary on the final stages of the pregnancy or provide any alert for when the 31-year-old Kate goes into labour.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge then went back into the hospital to take their son — as yet unnamed, at least publicly — to a car and drive home to Kensington Palace.
William put the infant in the vehicle in a baby car seat and took the wheel himself for the drive.
Royal birth is front-page news worldwide.
The couple appeared before a waiting throng after Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, visited the hospital late Tuesday afternoon to meet Charles's day-old grandson.
Charles smiled and waved to the photographers and well-wishers who had camped outside the hospital for hours to await the public debut of the baby prince. The eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II, Charles is first in line to succeed her, followed by his own first born, Prince William, and William's newborn son.
'Everything's marvelous. You'll see in a minute,' Prince Charles said while exiting the hospital with his wife, suggesting that the debut of the newest heir to the throne was imminent.
Among those who gathered outside the hospital to await the prince's emergence was Margaret Tyler, a 69-year-old London resident known for her home stuffed with more than 10,000 items of royal memorabilia. 'I'm not going to miss this,' she said as she waited. 'When they walk out that door, that will be our history.'
Catherine, the former Kate Middleton, gave

The world has seen the royal baby for the first time as the future king left hospital with his ecstatic parents this evening, who revealed they had not yet chosen a name.
Prince William and Kate waved and smiled broadly to the waiting cameras as they held their prince on the steps of the private Lindo Wing at St Mary's Hospital in London, 26 hours after he was delivered, weighing 8lbs 6oz.
The Duke of Cambridge followed the steps his parents Charles and Diana took with him 31 years ago, when he was born there on June 21, 1982.
His child is now third in the line of succession, displacing Prince Harry to fourth and the Duke of York to fifth, although he may not become sovereign for half a century or more.
The Duke, Duchess and Baby Cambridge will travel home to Kensington Palace tonight, spending two weeks there while William is on paternity leave.
Huge crowds of well-wishers and journalists from all over the world have been waiting outside the west London hospital ward for weeks, first to be there when Kate went into labour and now as the couple left with her firstborn child.

The royal guests were greeted by John Key, the Prime Minister of New Zealand, the Mayor of Wellington Celia Wade-Brown and other dignitaries.
The Duchess of Cambridge was wearing a scarlet coat by designer Catherine Walker, and a matching hat by Gina Foster hat.
In honour of her hosts she also wore a silver fern brooch, a symbol of New Zealand, which she had borrowed from the Queen.
