The Netherlands denied hosts Belgium a first ever women's medal at the TriFinance EuroHockey Championships as they proved too strong in the bronze medal match in Boom.
Charlotte de Vos provided an excellent 55th minute goal to give them some hope of upsetting the Olympic champions but, in the end, the Dutch closed out the tie.
They had earlier hit the front courtesy of Caia van Maasakker driven low drag-flicks in the ninth minute after a lively opening spell.
Belgium thought they had equalised when Jill Boon danced across the circle and shot in on her backhand but, on video review, Emilie Sinia was adjudged to have blocked Willemijn Bos's attempts to put in a tackle and the goal was disallowed on video referral.
Soon after, Carlien Dirske can den Heuvel made it 2-0. It came from a corner that was not stopped but the Dutch improvised well, passing the ball around the circle to Kitty van Male who crossed in front of Aisling D'Hooghe and van den Heuvel duly touched the ball home.
They held that lead for much of the second half but the game was put back in the mix when Barbara Nelen played through de Vos in the 55th minute and she unleashed a brilliant reverse-stick shot.
And her side kept pushing for the equalising goal, taking off their goalkeeper in favour of an extra outfield player late on. The gamble did not work, however, as the Netherlands passed their way through the circle a

Highlights of the second men's semi final at the Trifinance EuroHockey Championships 2013 in Boom, Belgium, between Belgium and England.
Hosts Belgium dumped England's men out of the EuroHockey Championships with a 3-0 semi-final victory.
Belgium began the brightest and took a first-half lead through a sliding Thomas Briels, whose deflection soared past goalkeeper George Pinner. Jerome Truyens and Florent van Aubel added goals as the game became a Belgian procession to the final.
England, the 2009 European champions, will play the Dutch for bronze on Sunday. Belgium face Germany for gold. The Germans, who are the defending European and Olympic champions, defeated the Netherlands 5-3 in the earlier semi-final.
England had snatched half-chances in the opening period of their game but Belgium, playing to a packed venue at Boom's Braxgata hockey club, fed off the party atmosphere.
Briels's slick finish cranked up the volume further, while Truyens rifled home a second - having been left in space - and Van Aubel volleyed an excellent third.
Though Ben Arnold flashed a shot over the Belgian bar and Tom Carson scuffed a strike wide, England's best chance came through Barry Middleton two minutes from time and was turned away by Vincent Vanasch in the Belgian goal.
Belgium are the only undefeated team in the men's tournament, belying a world ranking of ninth.

The final match of the day determined the other finalist of the women's competition at the TriFinance EuroHockey Championships, and after the second shoot-out in as many matches, England celebrated their first Euro final in 22 years.
In the first half, the Netherlands had scores of opportunities, mostly in the shape of penalty corners, but could not make their chances count. On the contrary, the Dutch were unfortunate to give away the lead at the other end when an unluckily deflected ball resulted in an own goal. Fallen behind, the world number one shifted up a gear however, and soon restored balance with a goal from Eva de Goede.
Things got heated at the end of the match, with three yellow cards in the last three minutes, but neither team was able to force a decision, and the second semi-final had to be decided in a shoot-out too. After two early successes from England, the Netherlands turned the shoot-out around just in time to force sudden death pairs, but it was Helen Richardson who finally tipped the scales in England's favor, pushing the current champions out of a European Championships final for the first time since 1991.

Semi-final: Germany - Belgium 2-2 (1-1) 2-0 SO
Forcing a penalty shootout with a last minute equalizer, Germany showed maximum efficiency and crushed the Red Panthers final hopes.
In an exciting and highly entertaining fast-paced match, Eileen Hoffmann set germany ahead in the first half deflecting a long ball, but Jill Boon ensured a balanced halftime score with a touch-in at the other end.
After the break, Belgium soon went ahead through Charlotte De Vos, and for half an hour, the Red Panthers not only held on to their lead, but rather created a number of excellent opportunities to win by a wider margin. Failing to make their chances count, the Belgians were dealt a blow in the shape of the match's first penalty corner for Germany with less than two minutes on the clock, which Marie Mävers finished off.
The late goal had a visible impact on the young Belgian team who crumbled under the pressure and could not challenge Germany in the shoot-out decider. Germany celebrated their fifth consecutive EuroHockey Championships final, while Belgium will be disputing the match for Bronze on Saturday.

In yet another match decided in a shoot-out at these women's TriFinance EuroHockey Championships, Germany snatched the European women's title for the second time in history.
The match set off at a blistering pace in a dynamic first half that saw seven goals. It was barely three minutes into the match when Georgie Twigg got England on the scoreboard, but Germany hit back with less than a minute through Eileen Hoffmann. Kate Walsh snatched back the lead four minuets later with a penalty corner goal, but then the pendulum swung the other way as a double hit from Tina Bachmann gave Germany the advantage. Helen Richardson and Hannah Krüger finally added a goal each for a 4-3 halftime lead for Germany.
In stark contrast to the first half goal fest, the second half only saw one lone goal as England's pressure was stalled by the tight German defense. Four minutes from the end, Susie Gilbert sunk the all-important equalizer that sent the match into the shoot-out, keeping the English team's hopes for a win alive.
In the shoot-out however, for the second time in three days, Germany came out on top, but the silver medal finish was still England's best result in 22 years.
In the ceremony following the conclusion of the final, Maddie Hinch from England picked up the Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament award, while Maartje Paumen took away the Topscorer title. Tina Bachmann had been elected Best Player of the

'In the first game on Thursday, England took on Belgium to fight for 11th place at the 2014 Rabobank Women's Hockey World Cup.
England, ranked third in the world, took a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute after Susie Gilbert went on a great run and put in a cross that Sophie Bray deflected into the goal. Belgium went close to equalising but England keeper Maddie Hinch made a couple of good saves to ensure England went into the break with the lead.
The second half began with an unfortunate and serious looking injury to England's Ashleigh Ball who twisted her knee whilst challenging for the ball. With three minutes of the game remaining, Belgium brought on a kicking back to try to force a shootout, and it almost paid off with 80 seconds left but Emilie Sinia hit a shot just wide of the goal. However, with the final play of regulation time Belgium scored from a penalty corner with Stephanie de Groof blasting a shot past the keeper to ensure a dramatic finish for 11th place.
Maddie Hinch was the better keeper in the shootout and stopped two efforts, and the shootout finished 2-1 to England with Sally Walton and Susie Gilbert finishing to secure 11th place for their nation.

'The last game of day 3 of the Rabobank Women's Hockey World Cup was a local derby between host nation Netherlands and Belgium.
Cheered on by a huge crowd in the Kyocera Stadium, the Dutch team made a fast start to the game and Ellen Hoog scored a beautiful field goal in the 5th minute to put her nation ahead 1-0. After an early domination by the Netherlands, the Belgium team started to gain a foothold in the game, but the quality of the Dutch team shone through and Marloes Keetels made it 2-0 in the 29th minute. The tournament's number one ranked team went into the break with a two goal cushion.
The Dutch made another fantastic start in the second half and Roos Drost raced clear into the D but her shot was saved easily. It didn't take long for the next goal as Maartje Paumen struck home a penalty stroke in the 44th minute to take the score to 3-0. The Netherlands were running rampant and Roos Drost finally got her goal to make it 4-0 five minutes later. Belgium came close to a consolation goal through Charlotte De Vos, but the Dutch girls comfortably saw out the rest of the game and recorded their second win of the tournament.
