'In the first game on Thursday, England took on Belgium to fight for 11th place at the 2014 Rabobank Women's Hockey World Cup.
England, ranked third in the world, took a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute after Susie Gilbert went on a great run and put in a cross that Sophie Bray deflected into the goal. Belgium went close to equalising but England keeper Maddie Hinch made a couple of good saves to ensure England went into the break with the lead.
The second half began with an unfortunate and serious looking injury to England's Ashleigh Ball who twisted her knee whilst challenging for the ball. With three minutes of the game remaining, Belgium brought on a kicking back to try to force a shootout, and it almost paid off with 80 seconds left but Emilie Sinia hit a shot just wide of the goal. However, with the final play of regulation time Belgium scored from a penalty corner with Stephanie de Groof blasting a shot past the keeper to ensure a dramatic finish for 11th place.

'Belgium and Germany battled it out for 5th place at the 2014 Rabobank Men's Hockey World Cup.

'A semi-final place was on the line in the evening Pool A game between England and Belgium at the 2014 Rabobank Men's Hockey World Cup.
England started the game knowing that only a win would ensure a place in the semi-finals, whilst Belgium only needed a draw to get through. Belgium went 1-0 up in the 13th minute after good work down the wing by Simon Gougnard who passed to Thomas Briels to score. It didn't take long for England to get back level when Nick Catlin struck from the edge of the circle in the 19th minute. Belgium had the majority of the possession in the closing stages of the half but the teams went into the break at 1-1.
England only took four minutes from the restart to go 2-1 ahead after great build up play by Nick Catlin who made a great assist for Ashley Jackson to score on his 100th appearance for his nation. However, with seven minutes of the game remaining Tanguy Cosyns drew Belgium level at 2-2 from a penalty corner. The drama was far from over as England was awarded a penalty stroke with four minutes remaining. Belgium were desperate for the umpire to refer the incident but the decision stood and Iain Lewers stepped up and coolly fired high past the keeper to put England 3-2 up and into the semi-finals.

Day 3 of the 2014 Rabobank Men's Hockey World Cup draws to a close with the contest between Malaysia and Belgium.
The underdogs Malaysia made it 1-0 from their first penalty corner, which was a well worked variation, in the 5th min through Razie Rahim. Belgium fought back and was awarded a penalty stroke after a Malaysian defender blocked a penalty corner effort with his chest. Tom Boon stepped up and made no mistake with his stroke to make it 1-1 in the 14th minute. After Alex de Saedeleer received a yellow card for a rash challenge, Malaysia converted the resulting penalty corner to go up 2-1, with Razie Rahim getting his second goal of the game. The one man disadvantage did not faze Belgium as Kumar Subramiam had to make a great save for Malaysia, before Simon Gougnard missed a golden opportunity right in front of goal. Seconds later, Tom Boon again scored from a penalty corner to bring the scores level at 2-2. Tom Boon was on fire and thought he had scored his hat-trick with a magnificent effort only for it to be ruled out by a video referral. Two minutes later, Boon did grab his hat-trick with a field goal to send Belgium into the break 3-2 up.
Belgium raced out of the blocks in the second half and scored in the 37th minute from a penalty corner through Tanguy Cosyns. Tom Boon then scored another fantastic goal, which this time was legitimate, to take his tally to four and the score to 5-2. Malaysia's resistance started to crumble

'The last game of day 3 of the Rabobank Women's Hockey World Cup was a local derby between host nation Netherlands and Belgium.
Cheered on by a huge crowd in the Kyocera Stadium, the Dutch team made a fast start to the game and Ellen Hoog scored a beautiful field goal in the 5th minute to put her nation ahead 1-0. After an early domination by the Netherlands, the Belgium team started to gain a foothold in the game, but the quality of the Dutch team shone through and Marloes Keetels made it 2-0 in the 29th minute. The tournament's number one ranked team went into the break with a two goal cushion.
The Dutch made another fantastic start in the second half and Roos Drost raced clear into the D but her shot was saved easily. It didn't take long for the next goal as Maartje Paumen struck home a penalty stroke in the 44th minute to take the score to 3-0. The Netherlands were running rampant and Roos Drost finally got her goal to make it 4-0 five minutes later. Belgium came close to a consolation goal through Charlotte De Vos, but the Dutch girls comfortably saw out the rest of the game and recorded their second win of the tournament.

Day 5 in Group A saw the highly anticipated clash between Belgium and Australia. With top spot up for grabs, Australia shot out of the blocks taking an early lead through Ciriello who fired in from a penalty corner. The Aussies weren't done there though and doubled their lead with an incisive breakaway goal, Turner teeing up Whetton after seeing his initial shot blocked.
The Australians started the second half in the same manner as they started the first getting an early goal and putting clear daylight between themselves and Belgium through a fine solo goal by Ockenden. This time around though Belgium had a reply and Dockier pulled one back giving the Red Lions hope of staging an unlikely comeback. But it was the Kookaburras who finished the half stronger, shutting the game out to return to the top of Group A.

At the start of day 7, both Spain and Belgium had it all to play for with both sides needing the win to keep them in contention in Group A.
It was soon evident that it was to be Belgium's day though, when Cosyns opened the scoring inside 13 minutes through a penalty goal. A second penalty goal followed three minutes later with, this time, de Saedeleer converting well. The Belgium pressure continued and the Red Lions were creating good chances seemingly a will, culminating in a goal a minute from half time with Stockbroekx turning well to create space for the shot and firing in well.
In the second half it didn't take long for Belgium to continue where they left off in the first and they scored inside the first 3 minutes of the half, Cosyns adding his second from a penalty corner. The fifth from Belgium followed 10 minutes later, when Boon's shot from a penalty corner was saved, Dohmen was on hand to knock in the rebound and make it 5. Credit to Spain though as and two late goals gave the score a more respectable look to it. The first a penalty goal by Tubau and the second a lovely flowing team move finished off from close range by Santi Freixa.
