Kolkata: India vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane on Tuesday said their 9-0 clean sweep in Sri Lanka will have no bearing in the return series and they remain focussed on maintaining the No. 1 spot in Tests.
India swept Sri Lanka across all formats in a full series in the island nation. Now India are hosting a return series comprising three Tests and equal number of ODIs and T20Is.
'This series is completely different compared to what we played in Sri Lanka. We are not taking Sri Lanka lightly even as we had a good series there,' Rahane told a news conference on the sidelines of their training at the Eden.
'Right now if we want to remain as number one in Tests. Every series is very important. We want to win each and every series. We know the conditions here.'
The low-profile Sri Lanka series is seen as a prelude to their gruelling two months' tour to South Africa against whom they will play three Tests, six ODIs and three T20Is in January-February next year.
'For us each and every match and series is important before going to South Africa. We will think of South Africa when we go there. Right now we are focusing on this series. South Africa will be completely different.

After Virat Kohli and R Ashwin in Antigua, and KL Rahul here in Jamaica, it was Ajinkya Rahane's turn to knock the stuffing out of the West Indian attack. On a day where the only thing to have possibly stopped India from thrusting into a position of further domination was rain, Rahane frustrated them further with a seventh century.

Rohit Sharma is likely to be named as the vice-captain of the Indian Test side for the challenging tour to South Africa. The tour might be delayed by a week due to the Omicron scare, and might get underway on 26th December 2021, instead of 17th December 2021.
The current vice-captain of the Indian Test side, Ajinkya Rahane has been struggling to score runs, and as a result, the ‘Hitman’ might replace Rahane as the vice-captain of the Indian side in the longest format of the game.
In fact, a top Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official said that it is highly likely that Sharma might be appointed as the new Test vice-captain. The official also added that the Indian side will travel to South Africa, and the tour is likely to kick off with the Boxing Day Test match on 26th December 2021.
“The selection meeting will happen in a few days. It is likely that Rohit will be made the vice-captain of the Test team. The Indian team is committed to travel to South Africa. However, the tour will not go on as per schedule. BCCI has communicated to Cricket South Africa (CSA) that it could start the tour with the Boxing Day Test,” said the BCCI official.
Virat Kohli’s dismissal in the 1st innings of the 2nd Test match against New Zealand has become a huge talking point. Kohli was adjudged leg before wicket by the on-field umpire, and the Indian skipper reviewed the decision.
The replays showed that the ball might have hit the bat as well as the pad at the same time. Third umpire Virender Sharma ruled Kohli out, as he did not find conclusive evidence to overturn the decision given by the on-field umpire. And, Kohli departed for a duck.
And now, Dinesh Karthik has offered his thoughts on this matter. Karthik said that when he saw the dismissal live for the first time, he thought it hit the pad first, but when the replays were shown, he knew it was a close call. Karthik also added that according to the rules, the third u
