Festival of Sri Krishna Janmashtami is being celebrated with traditional gaiety and fervour all over the world. People dressed in their best are visiting temple to offer prayers to Lord Krishna. One of the big ritual is Dahi Handi which is celebrated in the western part of India predominantly Mumbai and parts of Maharashtra. Since morning large group of young boys and girls who are called as 'Govindas' in localy are seen visiting various places across the city to break the Dahi Handi as per the ritual. However, the enthusiasm among Govindas and organisers are are little low due to Supreme Court strictures issued on the height of human pyramids. The main function is being organised at the in Mathura and Vrindvan, which have been decked up with flowers and lights. Faithfuls in large numbers have been gathering since early morning to offer their prayers.

Like other parts of the world the Merry Christmas birthday of Jesus Christ was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety in Jammu region also today.
In this connection all the churches of the Jammu city and outskirts were fully decorated where the rush of devotees continued from midnight. The prayer meetings were held in various churches including the St Mary’s Garrison Church Gandhi Nagar, CNI Church Residency Road, St Peter’s Church and all other churches.
A large number of devotees including school children participated in the celebrations. The rush of devotees started in churches from last midnight who participated in special prayers and lighting of candles.
The members of Christian community attired in colorful dresses were seen greeting, hugging and conveying Christmas greetings to each other.
Special cakes were cut and sweets were distributed among the devotees.
