The doodle is has a striking and colourful vintage design.
To celebrate the start of the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Google has created a multi-coloured, eye-catching doodle.
The doodle features some of the main sporting events that will be taking place, including skiing, snowboarding and curling.
It appears that the retro-themed doodle has been inspired by the design of the Sochi Games' website, where each sport is represented by a different colour and illustration.
The doodle is completed by a quote from the Olympic Charter just below the search bar which embodies the spirit of the Games, the first of which was held in Chamonix, France, in 1924
The Charter reads: 'The practice of sport is a human right. Every individual must have the possibility of practicing sport, without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play.'
Despite this positive message, there has been much controversy surrounding Russia's human rights' record since Sochi won the bid to host the Winter Olympics. In particular concerns have been raised about the treatment of the country's gay community.
The Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics officially starts today with an opening ceremony at the Fisht Olympic Stadium. It will be running from the 7 -23 February while the Winter Paraly

The annual Perseid meteor shower is known as the 'fireball champion' of meteor showers.
Google has marked the arrival of one of the great celestial displays, the Perseid Meteor Shower, with an animated Doodle on its homepage.
The Doodle when clicked shows a short film of meteors dashing through the night sky against a variety of backdrops.
The annual Perseid meteor shower - known as the 'fireball champion' of meteor showers - happens every August and is caused by the massive Swift-Tuttle comet losing parts of its celestial body as it enters the inner solar system.
The Perseid shower is so-called because they appear to come from the radiant which lies in the constellation Perseus.
Observation of the spectacle is ancient, with the earliest information on this meteor shower found in Chinese annals in A.D. 36.
The meteor shower is often referred to, particularly by Catholics as the 'tears of St. Lawrence', as 10 August is the date of that saint's martyrdom.
Given a dark, clear sky it is often common to see more than 100 of the meteors an hour during the second week in August.
This year the famous meteor shower was accompanied by the lunar phenomenon of a supermoon.
The moon appeared 14% bigger and 30% brighter than normal as it reached the point in its orbit closest to the Earth, known as 'perigee&q

Google's latest doodle celebrates the 360th birthday of the man widely credited with inventing the piano.
Bartolomeo Cristofori was born in Padua on this day in 1655 in what was then the Republic of Venice.
According to Encyclopaedia Britannica, the instrument Cristofori invented was referred to during his lifetime as a harpsichord that plays soft and loud, from which its name is derived. In Italian, the phrase is gravicembalo col piano e forte.
On the blog dedicated to its doodles, Google wrote that one of Cristofori's 'biggest innovations was creating a hammer mechanism that struck the strings on a keyboard to create sound. The use of a hammer made it possible to produce softer or louder sounds depending upon how light or hard a player pressed on the keys'.
It added: 'Being able to change the volume was a major breakthrough. And that's exactly what doodler Leon Hong wanted to highlight in this interactive doodle.'
Cristofori's entry in Encyclopaedia Britannica notes that little is known of his life and that his invention was not well known in his lifetime, even if it has since become ubiquitous.
It reads: 'Cristofori apparently invented the piano around 1709, and, according to contemporary sources, four of his pianos existed in 1711.'

It was not untill 1786 that human beings trekked up to the highest point of the Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in the Alps.
On August 8, 1786, two Frenchmen - Dr Michael Gabriel Paccard and Jacques Balmat – created history by becoming first people to ascend the summit of Mont Blanc.
Mont Blanc, also known as Monte Bianco,or White Mountain, is the highest peak in Europe outside of the Caucasus range. It rises 4,807 m (15,771 ft) above sea level and is ranked 11th in the world in topographic prominence.
In order to commemorate the 229th anniversary of the historic ascent to the 'White Mountain', Google on Saturday created a special doodle for its homepage.
The doodle depicts two men reaching the top of the marvellous snow-capped Mont Blanc. Giving close resemblance to nature, the doodle also creates a sense of tranquillity with green forests at the foothills of the ice covered mountain.
The first woman to reach the summit was Marie Paradis in 1808. It is said that now the summit is ascended by an average 20,000 mountaineer-tourists each year.
