Former Minister, Senior BJD Leader Damodar Rout Expelled From Party
Just days after alleging multiple instances of corruption in various departments of the State government, former minister & senior leader Damodar Rout was dismissed from the BJD today.
In pursuance to orders from party president Naveen Patnaik, Damodar Rout has been expelled from the BJD, informed party’s state secretary, Bijay Kumar Nayak through a press release.
Rout had recently created ripples in the political circle by alleging irregularities and scams in disbursal of Cooperative bank loans, Omfed, distribution of saplings & in the Health department.
Earlier today, Rout had praised Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik by calling him a good human being, a writer and an artist with a clean image and has greater exposure as compared to his counterparts in the country.
On Monday, BJD’s Balikuda-Erasama MLA Prashant Kumar Muduli and party’s Jagatsinghpur district president Bishnu Charan Das had met CM Naveen and urged for disciplinary action & suspension of Rout.

Biju Janata Dal MP Baijayant Panda was on Wednesday suspended from primary membership of the party by president and Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik,
Panda was accused of indulging in 'anti-party activities'.
He responded to the development on Twitter, saying he was 'shocked' and denying the charges against him as 'false and baseless.'
He also alleged there was a conspiracy against him.
Member of Parliament Baijayant Panda has been suspended by the Biju Janata Dal or BJD after recurrent run-ins with party boss and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
'BJD chief Naveen Patnaik suspends MP Baijayant Panda from the party on disciplinary grounds,' party vice-president SN Patro said this evening.
Mr Panda had been removed as the BJD's parliamentary party spokesperson last year after he had written an article shortly after the rural body polls, criticising the BJD leadership, saying it was being run by 'opportunists'. It was seen as an open challenge to the Chief Minister.
Over the next few months, he had been targeted by party cadre, usually verbally but there has been one instance in May last year when some people loyal to his rival leader threw eggs and slippers at him.

Days after the Puri violence and police resorting to indiscriminate arrest of miscreants, Opposition political parties accused Revenue Minister Maheswar Mohanty of masterminding it.
Leader of the BJP legislature party KV Singhdeo said the Puri incident is another instance of deteriorating law and order situation of the State.
Condemning the selective arrest of peace committee members who were invited by Sri Jagannath Temple Administration for discussion, Singhdeo said Puri police is acting on the direction of the Minister.
Slamming the State Government for its double-standards in arresting people in the guise of inviting them to a peace committee meeting instead of arresting the real culprits on the basis of the video clips, the Government is trying to terrorise the sevayats through police.
Expelled BJD leader Damodar Rout too alleged Mohanty’s involvement in violence and demanded that the Minister should resign on moral grounds.Noting that Puri violence has hurt the sentiment of people, senior BJP leader Bijoy Mohapatra said the State Government should conduct a detailed probe to find out the people who conspired to defame the State.

Damodar Rout Likely To Name New Party ‘Biju Samatakranti Dal’
Former minister and BJD leader, Damodar Rout announced that the name of his new political party is likely to be ‘Biju Samatakranti Dal.’
While speaking to mediapersons in Paradip today, Rout said “We are going to form a regional party. Even though the name has not been finalised, I have suggested ‘Biju Samatakranti Dal’. Other members of the party may also come up with other names.”
The expelled BJD leader had announced about his new party last month stating that it will be named after former Chief Minister late Biju Patnaik.
Ever since Rout’s expulsion for his alleged anti-party activities, he has been on the centre stage of Odisha politics. The senior leader was expelled in September just days after alleging multiple instances of corruption in various departments of the State government.

The ex-minister said that after a thorough discussion, a decision related to the name of the new party and other details will be taken. Naveen Patnaik’s legislators demanded the arrest of former Biju Janata Dal MP Baijayant ‘Jay’ Panda for allegedly flying low over the eco-sensitive Chilika lake, a day after the MP’s chopper was seized.
The BJD MLAs disrupted the assembly and then staged a dharna within its premises demanding the arrest of their former colleague for violating environmental norms. On Monday the Puri police had, acting on an FIR lodged by the Chilika Development Authority, seized the R-44 helicopter and locked the hangar it occupies.
