The Moog Prodigy was my first Moog and one of my first synths ever.
Biography
Electronic music pioneer Bob Moog, creator of the Minimoog synthesizer revolutionized the sound and the role of keyboardists. Before Moog's invention, synthesizers were big, unruly instruments that could easily take up a whole room (laboratory). Unveiled in 1970, the Minimoog was the first, easily-portable synthesizer and brought what had been lab-bound electronic music to the masses and the stage; thus laying the foundation for the latter-day keyboard and MIDI-based marvels.
Born in 1934 in New York City, Moog (rhymes with vogue) took piano lessons as a child. During his teens, he built Theremins (the electronic sound instrument used to make the high-pitched eerie squeals in '50s-era sci-fi/horror movies). In 1957, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Queens College, Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University and a Ph. D. in Engineering Physics from Cornell University. In 1954, Moog founded the R. A. Moog Company as a part-time business, designing and building electronic musical instruments in a small apartment with his wife. The company became a full-time business in 1964, the year it introduced a line of electronic music synthesis equipment.

Born Robert Arthur Moog, May 23, 1934, in New York, NY; died of brain cancer, August 21, 2005, in Asheville, NC. Engineer and inventor. Robert Moog (pronounced mogue) was credited with creating the first practical synthesizer, the Moog synthesizer, as well as other electronic equipment related to the production, performance, and recording of popular music. His synthesizer, in particular, was considered key to the development of popular music in the 1960s and beyond. Yet Moog did not take much credit for his creation. Allan Kozinn of the New York Times quoted Moog as saying, 'I don't design stuff for myself. I'm a toolmaker. I design things that other people want to use.'
Born in 1934 in New York City, Moog was the son of an electronics engineer father and piano teacher mother. As a child, Moog was forced to take piano lessons because his mother wanted him to be a concert pianist. However, Moog took after his father and was interested in building things. When he was 14 years old, he built a Theremin, the first electronic instrument in the world. A Theremin is made of vibrating radio tubes and played by moving the hands around the tubes. Moog continued to build Theremins and kits to make Theremins through high school, enabling him to pay for much of his college education.
After graduating from the Bronx High School of Science, Moog earned his undergraduate degree in physics from Queens College. In 1957, he graduated from

Moog, born in New York City May 23, 1934, took interests in both music and electronics at an early age with the encouragement of his parents. By the time he was 14, he’d built his first theremin. By the time he was 19, he’d started a company — R.A. Moog Co. — which produced mail-order theremin kits for hobbyists.
Moog sold 1,000 of the kits, despite the fact he was working from his three-room apartment.
After success with his theremins, and completing a PhD at Cornell University in engineering physics, Moog began experimenting with his own electronic instrument designs.
In 1964, he developed the first voltage-controlled subtractive synthesizer to make use of a keyboard.
The device found early success with commercial musicians — often appearing in ads — but soon caught on with mainstream artists — notably the Beatles, the Doors and the Rolling Stones.
The Minimoog, a much smaller and more portable unit, was released in the 1970s and became widely used across the musical spectrum.
